My bf and I are due to fly to orlando from gatwick on 29th for two weeks. Anyone have any idea if this flight is likely to actually be cancelled? I'm a bit unsure of what to do!!! I don't want to cancel my holiday and flights with other companies are almost double what we originally paid!!! Also my sister is actually flying back from orlando to gatwick to arrive the morning we depart!!!

My partner and I booked our tickets through a travel agency but my sister's is throug the ba website.

If anyone has any information that I can't find please let me know!!

I've been around a long time, and this is one of the most cynical and calculating moves I've ever seen. Watching that sanctimonious union prat on tv made me want to throw my shoe at it. Any public service involves a duty to the people that keep it in existence. If they are so unhappy, poor souls, they have every right to seek alternative employment. I wonder how many would be successful. Yes, I am affected! Flights on 22nd and 28th, or at least they were.

Whilst I am very sorry to hear of any travellers stranded over the festive period there is a big part of me that is pleased about this news. I really cannot wait for the demise of BA. The airline is too big, poorly run and combined with the stupidity of government aviation policies is no longer suitable for the international playing field. It may be a contender against troubled US airlines but compared to those in Asia and the Middle East it's clinging onto it's heritage and past reputation. The employees need to be aware whilst they are 'fighting' for their rights, they may not have employment for much longer. They surely must be aware that the changes are part of ensuring profitability operating from a country with huge operating costs.

Fly Emirates. It's impossible for this to happen.

Don't you mean "The World's Favourite Airline"? That was dropped in 2001, when it ... urrr ... wasn't any more!

Passengers travelling on a package holiday should expect their tour operator to rebook them on a different airline, at no additional cost (but it may be impossible to do on a practical level) or offer a full refund. If you have booked a flight on its own with BA, you are at their mercy. As far as this moment is concerned, their are suggestions from cabin crew that many at Gatwick, who are already working on new, lower paid contracts, will not be going on strike and BA is trying to ensure that some, but perhaps not that many, operate from Heathrow. If you re book now with a different airline and the BA flight you booked operates as normal, BA will not offer a refund. Also be careful, most insurance policies will not cover cancelled flights due to industrial action.

It looks like brinkmanship but BA know at Christmas there are very few full fare paying business travellers so they would rather inconvenience passengers who only travel once a year than businessmen travelling every week. I suspect the union thought the airline would back down but the risks are too high, it is losing over £1 million a day and cannot afford not to push ahead with changes to work practices. For those caught up in this nightmare, my deepest sympathies, I booked with BMI, not in the healthiest of places right now, simply because despite compulsory redundancies looming, no one has threatened anything...

I keep seeing things about gatwick staff not striking, does that mean that as my flight is out of gatwick it shouldn't be affected?? I guess there's no guarentee but at least it could be positive!!

  • We are affected, so anyone got contact details of Unite's Steve Turner, Assistant General Secretary Len McCleskey and Brian Boyd?
So I and others can bombard them with Emails?

Just had to add my tuppence worth to this discussion as also well p**d off. We were due to fly BA to Athens on 23rd with a connecting Aegean flight to Crete - not coming back until 9th Jan. Now don't know what to do for the best.
Booked through ebookers and just spent 20 minutes on hold to be told much the same as others have mentioned above.."wait and see" - you'll get your money back or flights to any destination at another time blah blah...no good.. I want to go to Crete for Christmas & New Year and booked these flights in May to take advantage of good prices.

We feel particularly jinxed as only 4 days away from another trip - XL went bust  which meant a 24 hour journey instead of a 4 hour one...but we did get there!
