Possible BA Strike

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if anyone else is waiting on the outcome of the BA strike vote today? They will apparantly be providing their decision at lunchtime today.

Will anyone else be affected by this?

I am travelling home to the UK this Sunday with EasyJet, but am booked to fly back to Amsterdam on 26th with BA (they were cheaper).

Obviously, if they are strike, that won't be possible and as much as I would love to stay with the family longer, I have to be back at work on 28th December. Thankfully, I have one extra day to play with if needs be.

I understand that BA will try to get you on another flight or give you a refund. But, can I request a refund as soon as they announce their decision? This way, I can be sure of getting home on time, no hassle etc.

Does anyone else have backup plans in place?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

    Hi!

I'm awaiting the news with bated breath. We're due to fly with British Airways to Chennai on 28th December, returning on 18th January. As we're both self-employed we're pretty flexible where dates are concerned if so as long as I get three weeks in India within the next month I'm okay with it.

    Ahh, OK. Fair enough.

I have checked the flight availability and costs and so far, EasyJet is still available and fairly cheap. Just annoying.

Not entirely sure what they hope to achieve with the strike though. BA has made record losses and this will create more, which will mean more cutbacks whether they like it or not. Something has to change otherwise the company will go under.

I want to know the decision now, now, now. lol. Being impatient. Just want to get things sorted.

Fingers crossed they vote against strike action then.

So glad to know I'm not the only one.

If I had known this was in the pipeline when I booked, I would've just booked with EasyJet instead and saved myself the hassle. But, of course, there was no talk of strike action back then (booked ages ago).

  • IIRC correctly once they do announce the decision, you will be able to get refund or rebook.
Bear in mind that a decision could be reached and dates could be announced but it could be taken to the courts with BA seeking an injunction, so I guess that could also delay your refund.

Amsterdam should be OK as there are plenty of alternatives to BA and you should be able to get rebooked onto another carrier.

Long-haul should be safer and in less danger of being cancelled.

But, it's anyones guess until further news comes out.

    IIRC

IIRC? Sorry, I don't know what that is.

I have options to get back, thankfully. Including Eurostar to Brussels followed by another train to Amsterdam. But that is both costly and time consuming. So, should hopefully get a flight with EasyJet if needs be.

Only EasyJet and BA fly between Gatwick and Amsterdam, but I could go to Heathrow, Stansted etc if needs be.

Just annoying cos I thought I had it all planned and prepared. Ha!

  • IIRC = If I recall correctly. I think I duplicated 'correctly' by error.

BMI, Lufthansa, KLM also fly from various London airports off the top of my head. There may be more.

  • I'm desperatly waiting too- we fly to Orlando on boxing day. I may have one very dissapointed child.
Just had a look at continental and the flights are about £2,500!
I presume, BA will give refunds. Do you then claim the differnce from BA or from your insurance.
Never had to do anything like this before?
