    May I join in?

We were travelling yesterday early evening along the M4. It was a 2 lane section and the car in the near lane doing about 65, so my DH moved over into the outter lane to overtake. This !@£$%^&^ came up behind and did a sort of accelerate and drop back a foot a few times while we were overtaking, generally being a right jerk. So as we are clearing the car indicate to come back over and said jerk, undertakes us as we were about to pull in. If that wasn't bad enough, maybe this wasn't a good idea but DH flashed him and Jerk (now infront ) slammed his brakes on. WHY? IDIOT. How he didn't cause an accident I will never know bit this behaviour was uncalled for. Sorry been waiting 24hrs to air this one.

If you need to change lane, first use your mirrors and if necessary take a quick sideways glance to make sure you will not force another road user to change course or speed. When it is safe to do so, signal to indicate your intentions to other road users and when clear, move over."

At what speed did you overtake? did you make the other driver break?

I often find that people will pull out to overtake without taking into account the speed I am travelling at and force me to brake, when they should be judging my speed and either waiting for me to pass or matching it.

It's one of the most annoying things for me, I travel a lot (30K miles pa) and use a lot of dual carriage ways.

I always have my sidelights on, and 75% of the time have my head lights on, there's no down side and I hope it warns people I'm coming so they don't do stupid things like pull out in front of me last minute.

This happens a lot at junctions as well, I'm doing the 60mph limit, they pull out and I have to break hard as they are doing 20mph when I almost go in the back of them!! People just don't seem to be able to judge speed any more.

Parking drives me mad too. I was once in my car parked in a car park just about to get out and they car next to me opened his door and struck my car. I jumped out and complained and he said "that's what the plastic strips are for"!! Unbelievable. My new car doesn't have them and already (after only 6mths) has 2 door dents in it. People just don't have any respect for other peoples property. I even see pushing through car parks knocking bags against peoples cars and bending their mirrors rather than walking around them or even trying to be careful not to bash into them.

I use my horn a lot, usually at least once every 15mins while driving, there are so many idiots on the road, we should all blast our horns at the idiots and hopefully they will enventually get the message and start driving properly.

similar story but ill show you where mine changes:

puts his foot down to escape, but preempting him i do the same and follow to 98mph. his is in a late 1990's rover, the engine is topped out. a few minutes later he goes into the layby as his engine almost explodes. result!
sorry for playing games on the road, but he deserved it.

I wasn't too impressed by an Asda/George lorry driver who tried to force me into the opposite lane (coming towards me) this afternoon! 2 lanes coming up to traffic lights with a huge MERGE in TURN sign - I was in the outside lane and attempted a correct merge behind the car in front - the prat of a lorry driver accelerated, hooted, flashed his lights etc and wouldn't let me merge - forcing me onto the other side of the road.

And before anyone comments, the merge system at these lights is very clear and easy to do normally and I was following the correct procedure (I don't argue with big lorries - they always have the upper hand!)

    I have another! :D

It is men (yes, and its only ever men) who in their youth obviously drove a real sporty/souped up number but due to wife and kids, have reluctantly given that up, for the one thing they loath beyond all else.....................
    A People Carrier!
The thing is they truly believe (when wife and kids are at home) that the people carrier can be driven like their old sporty/souped up car and it was just useless drivers in ALL the other people carriers. Therefore, they will NEVER give up trying to overtake that van on the steep incline, and the engine whines higher and higher as he creeps past the van at a barely measurable difference in speed. He will also sit in the outside lane of the motorway willing the thing to go that 'bit' faster whilst ignoring the increasing queue of traffic growing behind him. And god forbid you overtake him in ANY car as this will entice to spend the rest of the journey try to overtake you!

Outside lane hogging annoys me, when it gets to the point i start 'having' to undertake the motorway signs change to please pull in if not overtaking :D

The 1 headlight out and 1 or more brake lights out gets me, i see no less than 2 cars a day with those faults.

Tail gating is a pain, if your at max speed limit how did they catch up, then why in a 60 speed limit do cars tend to increase to only about 40 mph...

We all make mistakes from time to time, im only 22 so only 3 years experience but some mistakes people make are just outright dangerous.

Sounds a bit like my own internal rule for motorways, but in my case it's 70, 80 and 90 and works a treat for me. You shouldn't really be trundling along at 70 in the outside lane when overtaking - get some speed up and finish the overtake quickly and pull back in is my rule. People who overtake at 1mph faster drive me mad!

I am struggling to understand why (if I am in the overtaking lane, and overtaking something slower than me), I should break the speed limit just because you want me to. You can choose to break rules if you want, and I have the right to keep to the rules if I want. I realise that speeds higher than 70 on the motorway can be safe, but until the law changes 70 is the legal maximum.
  • Was on a normal main road today and a van turning on from the left tried to sneak onto the road. The lane was wider than average, so he came out in front of me and gathered speed half on the PAVEMENT as if it was a slip road onto a motorway, slowly pulling out in front but still managing to cut me up.

I just slowed down, completely perplexed at what on earth he was doing.

He didn't indicate once during the entire process.
  • I can't resist adding mine - what gets me going is the ones where you approach traffic lights on red. 2 lanes. Both lanes have potential to go straight on, merging on the other side. Outside lane contains the potential to turn right. Isn't it just wonderful when the lead car in the RH lane is not indicating, then when the lights change to green, they don't move because they are turning right and indicators are optional extras which they chose not to use, or they sadisitcally put an indicator on when they realise too late what they are doing!
Or, possibly worse, they do go straight on, but at more or less the same speed as the traffic in the LH lane (bearing in mind they are in an overtaking lane not actually overtaking) Usually can merge themselves in, but those behind are usually left stranded.
I really do hate rubberneckers too - they are responsible for many, many miles of traffic jams.

I have more, but it's late. Some other time, eh?
