Point taken. Who am I to argue with the opinions of a boy racer from North Carolina posted six and a half years ago:rudolf:.

Didn't notice the date, as far as I know the regs are the same then a they are now.

On another forum I was looking at, UKPoliceOnline,( some sort of police forum?), there was mention of the siting of these lamps, and under Construction & Use they are to be mounted at different heights, plus wiring regs, first few posts explain, i.e post#4; -

"Notwithstanding the difference between bulb and lens types for different types of light...
A pair of fog lights can be fitted up to 1200mm off the ground.
"Driving lights" can be fitted in pairs anywhere that points forward.

    But...
..."driving lights" must be wired so that they go off using the same switch as your obligatory main beams.
(Schedule 5, Parts I and II of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989)

    and...
...fog lights must only be used in conditions of seriously reduced visibility, and mustn't dazzle.
(Regulation 27(2) of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989)"

I'm not sure that Wikipedia is the most authoritative source of information but according to them - "Automakers and aftermarket parts and accessories suppliers frequently refer interchangeably to "fog lamps" and "driving lamps" (or "fog/driving lamps")".

Good to know that somebody agrees with me :santa2:.

After I went to all the effort to change the entry .

I suppose my counter argument would be that if Bosch produce a product and put it in a box on which they've printed 'Driving Lights' it doesn't actually mean anything, it just means that Bosch have given them that name. This isn't just my opinion it seems, have a look at post #5 here -

Bosch would have to justify under Trades Description re ASA and SoGA, as they have different types of beams.

The UK site I posted earlier sell them both!

Exactly, post #5; - "Type of light i.e. fog, aux headlight, driving , is decided by position and usage not what they are sold as ."

Positioning is determined by construction and use, and have different height positions and wiring data. Bottom line, there are driving and fog lamps;)

As I understand it, driving lights are the extra lights boy racers have, hoping to make their cars look sportier. You used to see them a lot on escorts and fiestas.
  • Three lanes at roundbaout, left = turn left or straight on, middle = straight on, right = turn right.

I'm in the left lane, turning left, indicating, waiting for lights, so how come, the car on my right, also turns left with me, and tries to cut me up? My horn soon made them stop! The joke is, this is the 2nd time at this roundabout, all lanes marked correctly, just stupid people!
  • My pet hate every morning is drivers who deliberately go at 30mph threw a roundabout i use, it makes it a nightmare for me to get on to the round about. also the ones that indicate right to go straight on that means i don't get out because their is a @@@@ approaching at 30mph again because they have a clear view of the road to the right on their approach.

Then it's school run mum who can't judge the size of their 4x4 so drive in the middle of the road and force you to stop as they sway over the road. Then they block peoples drive ways so they can drop their kids off, or double park/use zig zag area. then speed off at 30/35 in a 20 zone, once their kids are safe.

And people that sit between lanes at the lights so no one can get next to them in case they lose 10ft of driving space:mad:

And people that flash their light for you to go even though they shouldn't but they continue heading for you at full speed........ don't flash just go i'm not losing my no claims for you to get a new car.

Maybe it means 'Stay there, I am coming through'? Just as likely
Flashing lights can mean anything that you and the other driver want it to mean (not necessarily the same meanings either). The only thing that you can say for certain is the other driver is making you aware of their presence, any other meaning is conjecture.
