Vent about some drivers
Comments
-
After the snow in Scotland yesterday I had to add to this vent. I approached a roundabout and took it VERY slowl (roads hadn't been gritted) but I still managed to slide out quite badly. While trying to correct the skid a car decided to pull out off the junction right for me
In all fairness if he had not off went to pull out his car would have been perfectly safe, plus are you not meant to give way to traffic from the right? After my slide finished and he was giving me all the profanities (sp) under the sun, someone in the car behind me asked the man what he thought he was doing. His response .. might as well get a claim at my expense!
Charming! And he wasn't too happy when I pointed out my young son in the car!0 -
At what speed did you overtake? did you make the other driver break?
Normally, I'd agree with you that this need to be taken into account, but when I was driving on the A1(M) the other day, I nearly got rear ended by a prat in a BMW.
I pulled out to overtake, having checked that I had room, and this car was about half a mile back. About half way through the overtake, he's up my backside, flashing lights, honking horn etc etc...
I don't know how he caught up to you if you judged his speed correctly, half a mile on a daul carriageway isn't far. You should of been aware how fast he was travelling from continually checking your rear view mirror while driving. Surely you would of seen him gaining very fast and therefore knowing your "banger" isn't going to be fast enough to over take in time you should of waited for him to pass?
This happens to me many times every day and drives me mad.
Another thing is when you leave a 30mph limit and enter a national limit after say a village, and some people poodle along at 30-40mph instead of 60mph. If they don't see the signs / can't do 60mph they shouldn't be driving!

On a roundabout, giving way to the traffic from the right refers in most cases to traffic that is already negotiating the roundabout, not that approaching from an entry to the roundabout. Your post is not clear as to where you were when the other driver pulled onto the roundabout.
Many drivers both approach and enter roundabouts at far too high a speed, then are suprised to find a slower moving vehicle in front of them...........the purpose of a roundabout is to allow traffic to flow safely on all the roads entering and leaving the roundabout, not to be used as a high speed chicane.0 -
Perfect example of terrible driving yesterday, passing a junction and a taxi pulled out onto the single lane 60mph carriageway just as I was passing him stopped at the junction. I managed to ride the curb to avoid him hitting me. Unbelievable!!
He was stationary at the junction when I approached, he then waited for me to get to the junction and them pulled out into me. How stupid can you get!

With all the snow nearly everywhere I guess the florists will be doing a roaring trade for roadside shrines.

It actually doesn't.
There is a diagram that indicates you use the left hand lane but it actually says:

olly your diagram is exactly how i navigate roundabouts when its left lane for left and straight on and right hand lane for right only0 -
Sounds a bit like my own internal rule for motorways, but in my case it's 70, 80 and 90 and works a treat for me. You shouldn't really be trundling along at 70 in the outside lane when overtaking - get some speed up and finish the overtake quickly and pull back in is my rule. People who overtake at 1mph faster drive me mad![/QUOTE]
Fully agree with you; worst of all are the idiots who tailgate you in the outside lane - you pull in to let them overtake, which they don't do and then you find yourself forced to brake because your catching up fast with another vehicle, and have nowhere to go.
Cruise control has a lot to answer for in the wrong hands............
or the guy who was tail gating you whilst u were overtaking doesnt overtake you once you have pulled over and then decides to pull in behind you0 -

OK the same thing above, pretty much happened on Saturday, and this time I couldn't severe out the way so got crunched!!!
Looks like the bloke who drove into the side of me as he came out of a side road into the main road without looking isn't insured either!!!!
What a complete nightmare!
Going to cost a fortune in excess and hiked insurance premiums for me now!

The last two days I have hated driving. Yesterday evening, rush hour traffic had an old lady so close being me she was nearly touching me. As she turned off I saw her doing the same thing to someone else.
Driving home 9pm had a van tailgating me again, I couldn’t go any faster as had a van in front of me and these roads are vile and there are no chances to overtake. So I had them blinding me for half an hour. Today- me driving down my road, a man races out of a junction, I have to emergency stop, he looked blissfully unaware, I beeped but he didn’t look up. GRRR. I just get annoyed sometimes!0
