had it been fixed?
No issue has not been resolved. I was given this new card just before Christmas and it has been no end of trouble. As has been said previously, I am being charged £1.50 transaction fee by the likes of Amazon and the number of retailers who won't accept it is untrue. I have spoken to my bank on several occasions to find out if I will be reimbursed and when they anticipate these problems being resolved (I have also spoken to retailer) and no-one can give me a straight answer. I accept that the bank informed retailers prior to rolling out this card but I still feel that they should have made sure that the card was working successfully before issuing them. As it is, I have no confidence in using this card and the customer service from the bank is non-existent. I really don't know what the answer is other than changing banks although I have been told that these cards are replacing Maestro anyway so I could have same problem with another bank.0 -
I wish I'd not activated this card, it's been nothing but problems for me. I've found it difficult to do any online shopping. When it came to doing my shopping and buying a lottery ticket with my weekly shop the till kept saying it was a credit card! I've had to explain to quite of few people that it's a Mastercard Debit Card.0

IKEA claim that they treat all VISA & Mastercard DEBIT cards as credit cards and charge the user £0.70 for the payment!
I'm also getting the random charges and having spoke to both Amazon and Paypal customers services advised that the charge is added by the bank! This seems to add up when you look at the invoice from either of them as the invoice total shows the amounted debited from your card. I spoke to YB who said "we are aware of it and will be sending out letters shortly. You will be re-imbursed". Sadly they couldn't offer a timescale for this!0 -

Nonsense- anything with debit on it is free of charge for payment, the self checkouts do it automatically. I've never been charged for using a debit card at IKEA- either Visa Electron or Visa debit. Someone's getting mixed up because the charge applies to Visa and Mastercard and thinking it applies to them.
Mastercard debit might be adding a charge done due to the same problems other places are having with it.
In that case use the regular checkouts and as the charge was just added manually and therefore staff could override it unless they've changed the systems.0 -
The BIN range is 5412 75
If I were to hazard a guess, someone messed up the paperwork when Clydesdale/Yorkshire initially notified the rest of the banking industry; the mistake obviously didn't originate with the merchants and it's a bit rich that the banks want to blame them for something which has actually caused quite a few problems for customers and merchants alike.0 -

As a merchant, we actually received a more specific BIN update for the range concerned, but this defined the BIN as a MC Credit Card too. Apparently our system supplier is testing a new BIN definition which will correctly identify the cards.

The bin range for mine (Clydesdale Bank) is 557351 so within the "MasterCard DR Card - 557347 - 557446" range, but still with problems.0 -
Hi all
First of all, I'd like to thank the other folk who've posted on this thread. It made me realise I was not alone in experiencing problems with the Mastercard debit 'pain in the' card!
I'd been perfectly happy with my Maestro card, but the bank decided the MC debit card would give me many 'advantages'. Not so! For example, online purchases cost one pound fifty pence per transaction, and the charge for booking airline flights cost eight pounds, instead of three pounds fifty.
Anyway, feeling annoyed with this situation, I saw my Clydesdale Bank Manager and requested a new Maestro card. (By the way, many thanks to other posters on this forum who suggested this solution). I now have my preferred card of choice and all is well. Yeah, the MC debits will be rolled out 'across the board' eventually, but hopefully by the time that happens, all the inconveniences expressed by posters on this thread, will have been sorted.
So, to sum up, if the new MC debit card, which you didn't ask for in the first place, is causing you all kinds of hassle - see your Branch Manager, outline your own inconveniences with this awful card, and request a new Maestro. Clearly, I can't guarantee they'll comply - but it worked for me, and I feel a whole lot better for it.
One last thing, the bank reimbursed me for the one pound fifty x 2 expenses caused by two online purchases AND after explaining to EJ airline that the MC debit was NOT a credit card,, I was reimbursed four pounds fifty. It can pay to complain - or at least to get back what was rightfully yours in the first place!
Hope this helps. Gotta say that I only joined this forum to give moral/practical support to anyone getting hassle from this awful MC Debit card. Argh!
Best of luck.0 -
Seems the Post Office is sorted with these cards now, had someone in the other day who paid a bill (bills require debit, not credit, cards) with a CB Mastercard Debit and it went through fine.
Once all the issues are resolved with these cards I reckon it'll have been a good move in the long run. Who wouldn't prefer a card with better international acceptance and better purchase protection?
Let's just hope it's all resolved soon0
