The problem occurs because of the number and complexity of the offers.

If they just offered decent prices all the time they wouldn't have to change the prices so often. They all offer so many offers it must be a nightmare for the staff to constantly be changing prices etc.

It's not the offers that I was talking about, it's the wrong price on the shelf.

e.g. the price on the shelf says 'M' bread 45p, but the bread on the shelf is a completely different type costing 97p

Or my favourite, which has been in my local Morrisons since before last xmas. 'M' round plastic container 66p. But they have never had an 'M' container on the shelf, it's always a different brand that costs 99p. What annoys me is they are always put on the shelf with the label facing away, so you can't actually see they are not 'M' brand until after you have picked them up.

Another one that sticks in my memory, because it was there for so long. A large tub in the veg section with a sign saying "1kg Potatoes, half price [STRIKE]£1.40[/STRIKE] now 70p" But that tub never contained anything but 2kg potatoes at £1.99, and they were always placed in the tub face down, so you couldn't see the price printed on the front.

Sometimes I wish I had a mobile phone, so I could take pictures and post them on a web site. Including the special offer signs that are left for days after the offer has finished. And the special offer signs that hide the real price, like "Buy two for £1.40" but when you look under the sign the shelf price says 60p each!
  • OK, I'm annoyed now, annoyed enough to go off and find proof of something I saw in Tesco last Sunday.

I was in the queue to buy fags, and the woman in front of me asked for a box of matches, swan vestas. The girl behind the counter said "We have single boxes for 20p, or you can get a pack of 4 boxes for £1.10". And the woman bought the pack of 4 !!!!

At the time I was going to write in here about idiot shoppers, but forgot about it by the time I got home.

But who is the bad guy? The woman for not working out the cost, or Tesco for taking advantage of the the fact that they know most people think multi-packs are cheaper, so will go for them without thinking?

People being stupid enough to be conned is not an excuse for conning people.

Maybe they have a different size pack in the multi pack.

    Or not.

I would say that in your example the customer is at fault. She was given both options and she picked one. If she couldn't be arsed to work out the better option between 1 x £1.10 or 4 x £0.20 (which to be honest, even the most innumerate person should be able to do) then the store can't really be held to blame! (Although, of course, not all examples like this are quite so simple)

or not, they all contain 85 matches (average contents).
  • A similar thing in Asda at the moment - 4 pack 2lbottles of Asda coke for @£1.70. If you buy them seperatley, they're £1.60 for 4!

So, you think it is alright to con someone who can't be arsed to figure out they are being conned?

Can I use this as an excuse in a court of law?

"I didn't rape her M'lud, she was so relaxed with the drink that she couldn't be arsed to stop me".

"Ok M'lud, I did break into his house and steal his TV and DVD Recorder, but you can't blame me if he can't be arsed to stay in an guard them".

"Yes M'lud, I did run over the child and kill him, but the little b*gger couldn't be arsed to get out of my way".

The "Can't Be Arsed Act" 2010

1.0 No man shall be guilty of a crime if he believes his victim couldn't be arsed to stop himself being a victim of the crime.

1.1 Anyone deemed to be "can't be arsed" shall be regarded as fair game for any criminal"

I'd say slightly different, but that would be a totally under statement.

First one would still be rape as those intoxicated are presumed not to be able to consent.

A better example would have been burgler asks if they can take your telly or not and you say "yes".

The customer is offered the choice and they picked one. There are loads of multipacks in stores that are more expensive than the same amount of singles. Extra packing costs extra money.
