Surely they would have left their soap to mature though - they would have realised that caustic soda can burn your skin? She was using her fresh made soap straight away

I'd have thought so too. Although even after curing, soap in those days was notoriously harsh. Good for doing the laundry with though. :)

I thought the soap segment was really interesting - on Kirstie's homemade christmas she talked about letting the hand soap mature for 6 weeks to get rid of all the caustic soda,

Actually, most of the 6 week curing time is simply to allow the soap to dry out as it will be a harder bar and last longer. The soap should be completely saponified and therefore not caustic after a couple of days. That's when you would then cut it into bars and soapmakers will often try a little bit then to see how well it lathers and what it feels like.

excellent programme. Should be on at prime time instead of Eastenders. If more people watched these type of progs instead of screaming shouting and sleeping aound etc the world would be a better place.

My kids love this, and Coal House at War.

Me? Alex, Peter or Clumper, I'd be hard pushed to choose... LOL!
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    I think PETER is gorgeous!

    I heartily agree :D

We didn't get around to watching it on Sunday but luckily recorded it, and plan on watching it later this afternoon with DD. Hopefully she will enjoy the full-length program as much as the activity segments on the website (which someone has kindly posted the link for :) )
Love and compassion to all x
  • Am I imagining things or are there 2 more progs in the Vic Farm Christmas series? Are they also going to be on Fridays at 9pm this week and Christmas night?

And will that then be a head to head clash with Jamie's family Christmas on Channel 4 (or am I mixing up the progs even more than usual)? I can only record one at a time, and we can't get any iPlayer repeats (as "outside the jurisdiction").

Part 2 is on Friday 18th December at 9pm, repeated on Monday 21st at 7pm, and part 3 is on Christmas Eve at 8pm, repeated on Boxing Day at 8.10pm.
