Its definately worth the license fee all on its own!! I was overjoyed to find there'll be TWELVE episodes to the new series!!!!:j:j

Thanks again! PGxx
I'm glad you mentioned the Edwardian series - I didn't know about it. I would love to see the earlier series they've done. As someone else said, this is the only 'reality' programmes I enjoy because they are trying to live it authentically without throwing strops and bringing in their 21st century attitudes.0 -
I can't say that I thought Peter is gorgeous (!), but it's an excellent programme.
I loved the wheat grinding segment and learned where the phrases "grind to a halt" and "rule of thumb" came from.Hoping this year is better than the last.0 -

I've read that 'rule of thumb' comes from the time when men could beat their wives with a stick, but the stick was not allowed to be any thicker than his thumb.0 -

And no eye protection either, but as they're trying to faithfully recreate the way the Victorians did things, there wouldn't have been marigolds and plastic safety goggles back in those days!0 -

Surely they would have left their soap to mature though - they would have realised that caustic soda can burn your skin? She was using her fresh made soap straight away :eek:0 -

I struggled to keep a straight face when he said he was attracted to one particular ram due to the size/shape of it's rump."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

Intelligent eye-candy, does TV get any better???!
I have to agree with you there. In 'Green Valley' we get the delight of him without his shirt on. Yummy. And he has lovely legs.
Saying that, hubby does talk with some fondness of the 'shower scene' involving Ruth in last series.
Men. Tut.:hello:0 -
I thought the soap segment was really interesting - on Kirstie's homemade christmas she talked about letting the hand soap mature for 6 weeks to get rid of all the caustic soda, which totally made sense when Ruth said that she used the 'fresh' soap straightaway because of its caustic properties (as she energetically scrubbed out a chamber pot!)0
