Oh, this is very exciting. I loved the series - agree with the poster who thought it seemed very authentic rather than concentrating on ludicrous challenges and disgusting behaviour by the participants.

    Shall be recording this tonight.
  • It's the only kind of 'reality tv' I can stand, because it's about people genuinely trying to live in a different way. I liked 'Tribe' and 'Lads' Army' as well.

I watched the Victorian Farm Christmas episode and found it very interesting. I learned just how hard and non-idylic our rural past was. Women didn't just have 'washday', it took them about 3-4 days to do the washing, starching, drying and ironing!

I was also interested in the commentary about Christmas. I knew the modern Christmas was started by the Victorians (prior to the 1840s it was only observed about as closely as our modern Easter, ie not much) but I assumed it was just by shopkeepers trying to drum up trade. The prog however said it was also part of a genuine concern to maintain ancient rural traditions which the Victorians could see were dying out.

I love this programme. DD and I watched all of the 25 activites on the website in one go yesterday. I was surprised at how taken DD was with them (she is only 3) but she loved watching them make all of the wonderful things - particularly the food segments! :rotfl: I think we will be trying out the photo frames for birthday presents throughout the coming year.

I will definitely be watching this, but saving it for some proper old-style Sunday evening viewing ;)

I loved the first programme this evening! Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, especially when we saw Clumper again!
  • Yes, Clumper is gorgeous isn't he kat? It was brilliant, can't wait for the next episode. Loved it when they went to the windmill, then when Peter chose the new ram.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

That was a hefty piece of dough Ruth was kneading! Had a giggle when her daughter asked why parents have to be embarrassing!

Enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one and shall have a look at the activities on the site.

I enjoyed it too, love Clumper and Ruth's bread oven! Didn't realise rams have such huge male parts. The haymaking was cool too, it took so many steps to finally get the hay into the barn, it must have been such hard work and the disappointment when the weather could spoil it all, just like that! Oh, and the buttermaker looked like hard work but great fun. Can't wait until the next one.
