  • Yes unfortunately.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • also make note of the seriel number.. this is a major scam , buying perfectly working phones , saying they're faulty and sending you a faulty one back that WAS'NT originally yours

that goes for anyone selling anything electrical always take down the seriel number, better still take pictures of it and the device itself noting any unique marks it may have

Oh well, if it has to be done, it has to be done.

I have only the pictures of the front, however I did luckily note down the serial numbers of all items that were sent and IMEI number of the Phone. Which I am glad I did now.

Thanks everyone for the advice. its all food for thought before I reply back to buyer.
  • Well if it is genuinely faulty he would be best to ring apple or take it to an apple shop.

Being under warranty they would swap it straight over for him

I thought this too, However is was purchased via O2 website so need to contact them first to see what they say about getting a replacement.
  • I hope you recorded the emei number to make sure you are getting back what you sent? Firstly, as the phone is under warranty, then offer to have the phone checked yourself by ' your local repairer' to ascertain the any probs. Tell them that you will not cover the cost of postage either, unless the item proves to be faulty, open your delivery in front of the post person (pc lol) to cover you. Then just have the phone checked out. Do not offer a refund until you have has the phone checked though. I recently sold a perfect phone in warranty on ebay, i was contacted by the buyer 3 days later to say it didnt charge etc etc, funny, it did when i charged it fully for him prior to sending, he said the usb didnt work, though it had never been used anyway. Suffice to say, when i offered to have it checked by my guy, (without mention of a refund) he all of a sudden decided that as it was a spare phone, he would keep it, it was then that the tv ad for the carphone warehouse showed the same phone brand new for £20 cheaper than he had bid, suffice to say, he was trying his luck. Which is what this person seems to be trying. Whatever you do, dont back down either, as i am more than certain that paypal will back you due to the time between purchase and complaint, as long as your auction stated that the only warranty was the one that came with the phone, and that you had not implied further warranty by yourself, hope this helps??

Please. Please. Please. Just DON'T accept the return and do not even think to pay him refund. Tell him to go to see Apple. He seems a scammer. Even if he is not, how sure are you that you'll get back the piece you sent him. Just tell him politely to ...........

He may have jailbroken the phone incorrectly for all you know I would be reluctant to give him a refund and direct him to apple to look at it they are the only ones that can take a look not the O2 shop. My one was dead out of the box and could not be activated and Orange sent me straight to apple to look at and the would not give me a new phone and box even though I hadnt got to make a call on the first phone

Problem is you are forgetting this was an ebay/paypal purchase so seller has to refund if paypal accept that buyer believes phone to be faulty.

  • Another quick thought, Depending on his network the iPhone might need a slight setting adjustment, If its set to sign on to a UTMS network exclusively when 3G drops out it obviously won't find the GSM network. If the buyer sets it to Dual Mode the phone will sign on to the GSM network then find the 3G network. Also I saw he compared his phone to his mates, If he isn't on an iPhone optimised network such as vodafone, that will be like comparing a Lada to a Porche.
