I think the article in The Guardian pretty much summed it all up!! Personally I would watch anything with Kirstie in as I think she's great but possibly from another planet. Why oh why didn't channel 4 show this earlier??? most of us (and that includes folk in the none OS world) have brought cards and presents and got the house decorated, although one year my lovely sil did make her cake on christmas eve!! :rotfl: I for one will be looking closer at soap making, hadn't realised what fun it is!! and that christmas stocking!!.......wanders off to find sewing machine...................................
    Slightly bitter
  • I agree with an earlier post (sorry, I can't remember who by) that said she's like watching your posh but well meaning friend. I actually like that about her.

I was watching it thinking she was more concerned about it being thoughtful and homemade, rather than money saving. Sure, she did mention a few times that her version was cheaper (which things like the wreaths and hampers would have been, especially compared to the expensive department stores she was browsing in) but that seemed like it was a bonus rather than the intention to me. So from that perspective, I quite enjoyed it. Especially last night's gift making, we don't actually give gifts in our family now that there's no children but I would like to try a few of those just for fun. :)

I really enjoyed last nights programme. I like Kirstie - she's definately someone who doesn't give a rats bottom about what other people think of her. She seems genuine and probably to her perspective this is a cheaper version for her. Apart from cooking I've generally found HM to not be cheap as chips but then that's not always the reason why we do HM is it?
That teddy bear was lovely :D
It warmed the cockles of my heart and I am deeply jealous of these women who get to spend their days doing stuff like this :o

My DD1 enjoyed this, but she loves baking with me as well as painting and general crafting and I have recently got back into sewing and she is keen to join in with that too.
You could take some inspiration-the stockings looked good and saltdough will probably make an appearance here too-keep the kids busy in the days up to crimbo.
But I did think the whole thing was on much to late in the day for people to use this year, and some ideas were totally unrealistic. However like Nigella I look at it as "inspiration" and a way to get into the Christmas mood.

Me and OH watched this last night and had tears rolling down our faces. Lol. Saw this thread and we laughed some more. Best thing I've seen for ages for entertainment value.

From someone who has trimmed the house from the Poundshop this year. I don't think it was aimed at me either. I would like to go to her house and just push my nose up against the window. Lol

I wanted the Chutney recipe but it's not on the Ch4 website as they said it would be anyway someone has posted this:

In a bowl put chopped sun dried apricots (no amount given),
    1 packet of dates choopped,
    1 lb raisins,
    zest of 2 oranges,
    juice of 8 oranges(1 pt),

Let dried fruit soak up juice.

    Cranberries (No amount given)
    2 lbs onions chopped
    2 lbs bramley apples chopped
    ginger finely chopped
    2 pts cider vinegar
    tablespoon sea salt
    half a teasp mixed spice

All of that in a big pan, cook for half an hour

Add juice soaked fruit to big pan. Add 1 kilo sugar, bring to boil and see it thicken. Pour into 20 x 8oz jars.

Going to the cinema tonight, but really fancy watching this instead!!!!

After all the comments I think it'll be fun - I'm imagining it to be a bit like an old friend of mine, whose parents used to have Christmas delivered in a green van each year, and the men would then put up all the decorations and trees! We used to get the empty hampers for our toys - the hampers always looked a whole lot posher than my toys lol! Good job we're not all the same!!!
