Watching it now (well, ish). DDs are watching too whilst DD1 is trying to plan her next A Level Textiles piece. I have a sewing machine under the bed which I could let her use, her father and stepmum bought a mini one for her to use over there. But I think a good Xmas present for her might be her own textiles kit.

Oh definitely! Your sewing machine with some really nice fat quarters (from ebay) and trimmings. And maybe a book by Amy Butler or Lotta Jansdotter.

Have to agree with your points and what someone else said that we already do alot of moneysaving things so it was a show more aimed at those who have money but could cut down a bit rather than those who don't have any money at all.

Having said that l did really love it, and will definitely be watching the other two programmes. The wreaths were definitely money saving and most of us can get to a wood or a lane where we could 'half-inch' some ;)

Its a bit mean to say Kirsty is 'spoiled' she may have a privileged background but she's hardly sat on her backside and lived off her parents - she does work!

'Cept those who live in inner cities;)

    I beg to differ.

Ivy grows all over the place and I lived in London (for most of my life, over 35 years) and there were commons and parks where you could get stuff for wreaths, jams, all sorts.

I've got a batty friend who is rather like Kirstie. She is financially secure (thanks to family money) and doesn't need to work. Her parents bought her house for her and have always bought her cars.

All she has to do is feed herself (she's single with no kids) and pay her bills. She has no idea whatsoever about budgeting and does daft things. She will spend any amount on travelling but not on keeping her house in good repair. So she goes away and every time she either has a flood, a burst pipe or the roof leaks, so she has to get an emergency person out and pays the earth. Because she waits until things get really bad she ends up paying twice as much.

Rather than buy a new washing machine she looks on a free site. She travels about 50 miles in her car to look at it. It won't fit in and she can't lift it anyway. So she pays a man with a van to go a few days later. She gets it in and it's seized up and won't work. She then has to pay someone else to take it away. She would have been well on her way to buying a brand new one with a guarantee which would last her several years.

Please don't think Kirstie is alone with her weird ideas of how the other half live!

You did say "a wood or a lane" though. That threw me a bit.;)

Interesting article in the Guardian that says pretty much what everyone here has said.

It's too late to make the soap though.

    Is she one of us??:rotfl:

No... she's a clueless celebrity...but she's good to watch
  • Hi I liked it and we will probably make some of the things - wreath as usual, maybe garlands. Found details on website channel 4 of how to do these things.

I enjoyed watching the programme but I'm not convinced that all of the ideas are very money saving! I liked the look of the chutney and am going to make some for my Mum I think :D

She did look a bu99er in that hat I have to say :rotfl:
