Just watching Kirsty doing the turkey...
had to pop out at the interval, awff down to Asda's to order six bay leaves ('from your local grocer') cos we didn't have any on our land...
Only joking, sort of the love the craft aspect of the programme
BUT just got to the gold bit, let them eat gold! how outrageous!0 -
The pears did look effective though.:D
I will be doing the OS version - make pears from salt dough and paint them and make the luggage tags myself.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I posted the link here and set up her blog for her as she is not the most forum / blog savvy - she has been rather overwhelmed by the attention her recipe has received, not to mention getting over the shock of having appeared on national TV - I dont think she expected any of this - today has been a lesson in the power of the internet for her :cheesy:

Love it!!! Theres always a way round it. Bet the pairs you make will look loads better than Kirsties. Thought they were ok but for the price it cost it just wasn't good enough. I'd want that gold leaf all over those pairs... Pairs Bling!!!!
I thought the programe was quite good and although she's living on a different planet to most people I'm sure there's a cheaper way of getting most of it done/made.
The thing that bugged me was that she looked like she'd burst into tears everytime she said the words homemade or filled with loveEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -

I just watched the last episode on the Channel 4 website. I think the gold leafed pear idea was pretty ludicrous. Personally I would have melted gold colour wax and dipped the pears in it, then maybe have added glitter, sequins etc as the wax was drying. Alternatively, I would have spray painted the pears if they were only to be used as disposable table decorations. But to be honest doing the pear thing isn't really my cup of tea.
It was nice seeing everyone enjoying themselves in thanksgiving for the talents they had shared with/taught Kirstie.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I used to like chocolate, but can't stand the stuff now, so count me in to the 1 in 10:D
I watched the second programme on 4OD last night, and will catch up on the last one some time today. These programmes are the first I've ever seen KA in, and I have to say I think she's lovely! She seems to have a childlike enthusiasm for things which is really endearing.
I can't stand that stupid big hat she wears though :rolleyes:0 -

i havent readthe whoe thread so sorry if repeating things, but i saw the episode last night (missed he others) and i thought it was good.. i dont actually think it was about money saving as we all know that making things yourself isnt always cheaper than buying a mass produced version from the shops, but i think she was just trying to get back a more personal christmas, making things that could be brought out year after year rather than keeping up with the trend and having a pink tree one year and a gold tree the next and a neon one hanging upside down from the ceiling the following year...
i liked the little mince pie baubles.. might make some of those to go with my traditional shape ones (covered in glitter obviously- i too am addicted to edible glitter!)0
