i havent readthe whoe thread so sorry if repeating things, but i saw the episode last night (missed he others) and i thought it was good.. i dont actually think it was about money saving as we all know that making things yourself isnt always cheaper than buying a mass produced version from the shops, but i think she was just trying to get back a more personal christmas, making things that could be brought out year after year rather than keeping up with the trend and having a pink tree one year and a gold tree the next and a neon one hanging upside down from the ceiling the following year...

i liked the little mince pie baubles.. might make some of those to go with my traditional shape ones (covered in glitter obviously- i too am addicted to edible glitter!)

I have a pink tree because I like pink not because it is in fashion :rotfl:and i WILL be rolling it out year after year!

Safety when soapmaking is of paramount importance.

With regards making soap using wood ash instead of caustic soda, it's still a caustic substance. Also, it's an imprecise way of making soap and it's easy to end up with a caustic soap that will strip your skin!

Use caustic soda and a lye calculator. It's much safer.

Lol! Did you see Ruth make it on Victorian Farm Christmas.....no safety equipment there!!!

I know! £8 for that, that was funny. Thought the real gold leaf pear place settings were a bit silly too.
The little pile she got for £4 looked good though. The handleless mug looked like it was worth more than that on its own. Think she said it was Spode.
She did give one no-cost tip that I thought was good - using last years Christmas cards for gift tags.

Err .... you are joking right:confused: Brownies, Guides, OAPS and schoolkids everywhere will be :rotfl::rotfl: because they've been doing that for years. Does Kirstie think this is her very own homemade idea?:rotfl::rotfl:
