Personally, i think that it is refreshing for someone who comes from such a privileged background and who is currently very wealthy in their own right, to embrace traditional Christmas values. By the look of it she was positively gleeful about making and finding gifts and decorations that took time and effort and love, to bring to fruition....tha fact that she will probably have stimulated an immense interest in home crafting/gift making for Christmas, is excellent....as is anything that removes our focus from the commercialism that has seeped in to Advent and Christmas.
i agree.. all the adverts on TV are just brainwashing.. since when has it become normal for average people (ie not filthy rich) to spend hundreds and hundreds on people for a christmas present.. that is too much.. people expect such expensive gifts nowadays...0 -
i liked the little mince pie baubles.. might make some of those to go with my traditional shape ones (covered in glitter obviously- i too am addicted to edible glitter!)
I'm sorry to say this, and it's my biggest bug bear with her, Nigella et al. The 'edible glitter' they use isn't actually edible. Some are made by a company called EdAble Art, but they still aren't for use on food items, Disco dusts are another non edible glitter.
Most have a warning that appear that say 'non toxic' (and occasionally expanded with 'for craft use only') which does not mean that they should be eaten, they are indigestible. On a good day, that'll just mean that the ahem, by product, will be sparkily. On a bad day, someone could have an allergic reaction. They should be used only on items that will not be eaten (for instance, on a cake, an item that would be removed before serving).
If however, you're referring to a product called Magic Sparkles, then these are completely edible, and so carry on.....or if you're using them on an item that won't be eaten.
I don't mean to get on my high horse, and sorry for anyone who already knows all this, or uses something like Magic Sparkles, but there does seem to be a huge amount of 'celebraties' using these products on items that are meant to be eaten, and actually stating they're safe for use on food, when they're no such thing.:mad::mad::cool: Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190 -
I've had a good laugh watching Kirstie.
Is it me, or is she a bit of a lush when it comes to the drink? Every time there was a mention of alcohol she got all giddy! Shame Harry Hill's TV Burp has finished, I am sure they'd pick up on the numerous booze mentions!

My OH said she looks permanently hung over! Or, given her very smudged eyeliner look, like me when I get up with a hangover having forgotten to take my make up off!!0 -
I was a bit shocked last night to see an implausable number of lit candles in her dining room! A health and safety nightmare or what? I can only presume that all her children will be spending Christmas at boarding school this year.0

I would liked to have seen a few "new" ideas in the prog. As someone else said, mince pies with star shapes on top, nothing new there. Sprinkling icing sugar over a doily - my Mothers been doing that as long as I can remember and she's in her 80's. Please note Kirsty went and bought her ready made mince pies.;)
The chutney was nothing special and the woman should have had her hair covered. There are countless very, very similar recipes on the net and in just about all my cookery books. And I don't care what she says, chutney IS always better for keeping a few weeks.
Decorated wreaths - that's been a Xmas pastime for centuries - but hey, if it inspires others to have a go then that's fine.
The one and only thing I picked up and will do is putting the bay leaves under the skin of the turkey because I thought that looked great and was not expensive. I just wish she'd come down to earth a bit though "you may need to get your grocer to order these in for you." (or similar:rolleyes:). You can get them ANYWHERE - any supermarket, a friend's garden or one of those Weigh & Save shops.
I think Catherine Tate modelled her "posh Mum" around Kirstie. "Darlings I have dreadful news. Be brave. We will have to walk around the corner to school today as the LandRover is in for service.":rotfl:0 -
I'm going to be doing the bay leaf trick. Have a potted plant in the garden. I never thought about using bay leaf with white meat before.0

I will be doing the OS version - make pears from salt dough and paint them and make the luggage tags myself.
LOVE this idea - I could do this with the kids. Thank you. :beer:0 -
I can't stand her. In my opinion it was people like her who ramped the property market incessantly during the bubble and helped cause the current crash. Now that she can't do that any more, (even co-star Phil has gone bankrupt now) she is trying to recreate herself as some sort of frugal 'lady bountiful'. Well it won't wash with me madam!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

We watched all three but have to say only for the 'how many times can she refer to my (free to rent most weeks next year) Meadow Gate, yes Meadow Gate, did you get that, Meadow Gate cottage in Devon' spotting competition. Good job we didn't tie it to a drinking game, we'd have been comatose after first programme!0
