I am trying to boost my ponts to buy 2 merlin passes for the summer for me and my son. There not much of us in the house so i don't actually spend that much on shopping.
How else can I earn points. At the moment I'm re-using carrier bags.
I just read about the mobile phones and ink cartridges.
Are there any other ways?
I'm thinking of applying for the Tesco credit card to boost points. You get points on what you spend, and if you pay the card off when the bill comes, there's no interest fee. That's what I currently do with an airmiles card, but the miles accrue too slowly and I could probably get more out of Tesco points!0 -
They have!
Over the past few months I have sent several hundred inkjet cartridges away that I have collected, the points have been awarded and the clubcard vouchers issued.
Now I have tried to convert them to Virgin Holiday vouchers, a director of Tesco Freetime, the people who handle the voucher processing, has written to say that I have acted outside the terms of the points scheme and it "amounts to an attempt to abuse the clubcard scheme"
He has asked me to justify how this level of inkjet recycling "can be regarded as personal and consumer use" and to "only reply in writing as this will give us both an evidence chain should this matter end in court action."
I am an individual who has collected the points to take foster children on holiday in the summer. I have pointed out that they set a limit of 5 mobile phones to recycle, but do not set a limit on inkjet cartridges but they are trying to shaft me on the clubcard terms that state "THE TESCO CLUBCARD SCHEME IS ONLY FOR PERSONAL AND CONSUMER USE" and the number submitted is "FAR IN EXCESS OF ANY NORMAL USEAGE BY A CONSUMER HOUSEHOLD."
I am composing a reply, and will update on how it goes
I am new to this forum, so please forgive my inexperience but felt compelled to reply. I too have been recycling my inkjets under the Tesco scheme. As with ELDITIG, I was issued the clubcard vouchers and when I tried to exchange them for the virgin holiday vouchers they sent me the EXACTLY same letter. I have been recycling for nearly a year and not once did Tesco/The recycling factory(TRF) tell me I was sending "FAR IN EXCESS OF ANY NORMAL USEAGE BY A CONSUMER HOUSEHOLD". They took the inks, remanufactured them so profiting on them and now Tesco don't want to honour their promise. IS that not daylight robbery? I even have emails from TRF & Tesco customer service indicating there was no limit. Now, Tesco have amended their inkjet T&C to 30 per household per year because they know they've made a mistake. I am currently replying to HO too and I am sure if alot more people are complaining about this the better. Everybody, please let me know how you get along & I will post my results. I would go to Watchdog/Trading standards too, We cant let Tesco get away with this! Thanks!!0 -
How many did you recycle, can I ask? Just wonder what amount has got them annoyed?Pawpurrs x0

You can sign up for the on-line clubs - you get sent coupons in the post for extra points. Also get a clubcard plus - you load it with money either by direct debit or at the customer service desk and then use it to pay for your shopping in Tescos - you get double points that way.
I haven't gone down the credit card route cos I daren't get into further financial mess but I find the CC+ means I can't overspend and I still get extra points....altho obviously you can't use it in any other shops like you can a credit card.0 -

I sent total 2000 as and when I collected them over a period of a year. Not a single word from anyone to stop me recycling them. They just don't want to honor their promise. Am in the process of gathering more evidence & contacts to see what is to done. Any ideas?0 -
Devide how many carts you sent by the days in the year = 5.4 a day,
now tell us again how hard done by you think you have been ? are you really going to take them to court and say you use that many a day.
You know what will happen the cart recycle scheme will go the way of the R&R they will change it to 12 a year instead of the present 30.0 -
I'm all for taking Tescos for a ride.
But to be honest - the amount of recycling you 2 Dudes have done - you are taking the pee and you have been caught - it's tough.
As Leadhead (Tesco Coupon King) has said many times - the Clubcard is the Tesco ID card.
The mitigating issues - kids on special holidays - this doesn't really come into the equation.
You can try a Civil Court but you will struggle - sometimes Judges look more favourably on the 'little man' sat across from the Coporate suits - I can provide more info on Civil Court processes if required.
Ultimately I think you are stuffed.
In the R&R days I had a couple of times when I was stuffed by Tesco (only a couple) - simply walked away to fight another day.
Good luck to you,
Duder0 -
How can they be taking the pee when the T&Cs do not state a qty, or indeed that they can only recycle what they use? The mobiles state 5 per account, but the cartridges don't. Tesco's got their fingers burnt when someone sent in 100+ mobiles last year, and they tried to snatch back the points using the Term 'personal and consumer use only', but after media pressure had to back down. That's exactly what they're trying here. Even this quarter, they are still honouring the old mobile envelopes that do not state on the T&Cs that it's 5 per account. Double standards I think!
This is a classic case of Tesco's trying to flex their corporate muscles because they've been caught out, the T&Cs are deliberately worded as they are so Tesco's will benefit, and if someone 'breaches' the T&Cs then Tesco's can try and get out of it. But they are way to vague to even stand up in a court of law.
And please, define consumer? Too many meanings to define I would expect, depending who you speak to. I will only say if you're a business, then you've breached the T&Cs.
Do you think Tesco's just pick any company to recycle cartridges with? No, it all goes out to contract, and whoever offers to pay Tesco's the most money per ink cartridge gets the contract - it's exactly the same with the phones. Simple as! Do you really think Tesco's would be behind all of this 'Greener Solutions' if there wasn't something in it for them? Can't make this any clearer but Tesco's are making money out of this.
I'm sorry to rant on, and this isn't a personal attack, but Tesco's are quick to dangle the carrots in front of us ie extra points for various things, and happily advertise you can use four times the value of these points against Virgin Holidays and Motorpoint, thus trying to encourage us to spend more. Yet when someone takes a big bite of the carrot ie ink cartridges, they want to snatch it away so quick, then charge for taking it!!!
I so hope this comes back to bite their backsides! How about contacting Watchdog? I believe they are doing a big thing on Loyalty Cards at the moment. Could be a good idea to strike whilst the iron is hot!0
