Anyone Else Have a Christmas Day Child?

I'm a Christmas baby and my parents always celebrated my birthday on my Saint's Day (name day) which happens to fall in August. I think it's a great compromise and really recommend doing it for any Christmas-Birthday children. :T Although the disadvantage of August is that everyone's on holiday. I don't think I've ever had a "proper" birthday party.

My parents made sure never to get me joint presents, which I've always appreciated, although they always baked a separate birthday cake at Christmas so it didn't go by totally unremarked. And my Aunt always gets me a "Christmas Birthday" card which I LOVE (even now!) :T
I do think birthdays around Christmas are worse then having a Christmas Birthday though - at least at Christmas it's normal to have the whole family around with lots of cheer and fun. Before and after people are just preoccupied with the preparations or sleeping off the after effects! :rotfl:0 -

just reading this thread to be nosey really, but you reminded me with the saints days. We'd decided to call our son Joseph before we were even expecting (dp's late fathers name). Anyway he was born on March 19th which turned out to be St Josephs day! Didn't realise til a few months back when I dug out my baby name book for my sil, freaky eh!
And that has absolutely nothing to do with xmas birthdays :rotfl:0 -
My youngest DS is a New Year's Day baby and we always buy him a birthday present.
The only problem will be when he wants to have a party, I'm not sure what I will do then tbh.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -

Why does it have to be a problem?
My daughter will be 12 on New Years Day and she's having a few friends over for a sleepover.
When she was smaller, we would always go out for something to eat for her birthday on the day. Almost everywhere is open on New Years Day!
When she had parties, we would always have them the weekend after her birthday.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Why do some people mingle the birthday/xmas present for the Christmas babies.
My birthday is nowhere near Christmas but is exactly a week apart from my husband's and we get from certain people a 'joint' present bought, apart from it's not, it's certainly a shared present but it's not the equivalent of what they'd do if our Birthdays were months apart. I don't get it, my sister has twins and I don't get them a joint present and they DO share a birthday. 0 -
My DD is New Year's Eve or Hogmanay as she calls it. She always gets really naff presents. Either 1 combined gift which isn't really the value of 2 gifts or an outfit that she gets top for xmas and trousers for bday or vice versa. She always gets lots of sales things too. I too hate bday gifts wrapped in xmas paper lol.
We usually have friends and family for most of the day on and off. Last year we decided that she was old enough to stay up for New Year so we went to the cinema and for our tea and came home and celebrated just the 3 of us.
I always give her something through the year wrapped up as a surprise and she loves this.0 -
My birthday is the 23rd and I don't remember ever getting a birthday present until I married DH
One year I asked my Mum why I didn't get birthday presents like my brothers and she stormed upstairs and came down with a present wrapped in Christmas paper which she threw and me and said "now stop whinging" Still haven't managed a birthday cake but I can live without that.
She doesn't do Birthdays for my kids either (they get a card and I suspect some money in a savings account but I don't know for sure) so maybe it's just her way?0 -
My little boy is 4 on Christmas day. I feel quite sorry for him really - although can't do much about it
. I always make sure he has separate pressies (although he is still too young to notice) and we make such a fuss of him, telling him how special his birthday is. In fact his sister (aged 6) was crying last week because his birthday is just so special............I had to have a little chat with her about why we make so much fuss about little man's birthday (because he only has one special day blah blah!!). We obviously do a good job with bigging up the Christmas birthday!!. In previous years we have always had a birthday cake after dinner - and we normally have friends round so there are plenty of people to sing happy birthday!! He is having a party with nursery friends on the 23rd this year. I'm not sure about the half year party thing - it just wouldn't feel like his birthday then?
The worst thing for him must surely be that I always like to sing the Bony M 'Mary's boy child' substituting Mary and Jesus with our names...........:rotfl:
Well I hadn't even thought of that, brilliant, that can most certainly be an addition to the celebrations this year!:rotfl::T0 -
DS1 wasn't a christmas baby because he was very late but I'm mid Feb and I still got 'combined' presents so right from the off I made a point of keeping birthday and christmas separate. For several years we celebrated his half birthday in July as a distinct event, he got a party and presents then.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

My OH's is the 27th Dec, and I've made the cardinal sin of buying him a combined present  I've told him though, and he doesn't mind. I've got him a couple of other bits apart from his main present, and his main one cost me £100 so I definitely combined the budgets lol
Can't say what it is though, he knows I come on here!
He'll be with his folks xmas day though, and I'll be with mine (we'll have only been together for a year on the 30th); so I'll give him his smaller presents to open xmas day, then he's coming to mine on boxing day and I'll give him is main present then.
He's also lamented about not having a party, or even being able to get his mates down the pub because of Christmas commitments. He told me on his 18th his parents said he could have a watch or a skydiving lesson; he chose the lesson and it was meant to happen in March but never did, and on his 19th he got a watch - so he never even got his 18th birthday present
I think when he hits 30 he'll want some massive do which he might have to have another month. Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0
