My daughter was born December 29th last year. She's still a bit little to understand anything about Christmas or birthdays but we intend to make sure she doesn't feel short-changed because her birthday is so close to Christmas. She'll certainly be getting some separate birthday presents from us. The difficulty might be in stopping her elder brother from getting jealous that she's getting extra presents when he isn't...

Until wasabout 9 or 10 I always got a present on my brother's birthday in April, as when I was little I couldn't understand him getting presents on mine but not me on his! hen it carried on a bit after I could understand. My mum used to insist on seperate presents - I remember her being cross when an aunt gave m a tracksuit wrapped as 2 presents and my brother one just for Christmas! As an adult I definately get fewer presents overall (not that I mind tbh) as most of my friends just give me one.

My hubby's Birthday is tomorrow, we leave off any christmas decorating until the weekend after his birthday... And my little cousins birthday is next Monday so he's having a little party this Sunday... Hopefully neither feel shortchanged by christmas...

Incidentally, my eldest daughter's birthday is in March and last year her present from my grandmother was wrapped in christmas paper...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Daughter no.2 was born 21st December, nephew 25th December, best friends daughter 25th December, my daughter no.3 January 7th. Both my sister and my best friend celebrate the birthdays on the day and get seperate presents. My daughters have never got combined presents and we have always celebrated their birthdays like any other.... Christmas doesn't come into it.

One day I swore I'd hold a big birthday party in August so that I could have a 'proper' birthday!
lol, mine is always the august bank holiday and everyone was on hols and I used to long for it to be in term time on a school day!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Mine is on the 19th and I've given up trying to organise birthday drinks/meals etc. as everyone is booked up or short of spare cash to do anything. Organising something for my 21st was a nightmare so am sacking off my 30th in advance! :D
One day I will be out of my student debt, one day...

Mines is 29th and OH 26th-Boxing day. Would have loved a summer 'half birthday' day when I was little.
  • Mine's the 28th - mostly everyone has been good at keeping Christmas and my birthday separate; even if I get a 'combined' present on Christmas day, I normally get a little something extra to unwrap on my birthday just to make the day a bit special.

I've pretty much given up ever having a birthday party now though (I'm turning 32 this year). People are always either with their family, skint or on holiday. I did want to make an effort for my 30th though, and I do remember being annoyed with a friend when she couldn't afford to join us for a drink, it's not like it was a surprise to her, my birthday tends to occur on the same day every year
Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself :D

Mines the 29th, fianc!e is the 17th. Expensive time of year!

I also have the pet hate of birthday presents in Christmas paper, and joint presents!

When i was growing up i would always have separate Birthday presents from my parents and in the summer they would buy me something suitable as a present, a bike, paddling pool etc. I think its a good idea to have a nominated day in the summer for a 2nd Birthday. (i still try to tell my parents that and funny enough at the age of 27 they are not impressed!)

I've found that the week between Christmas and new year is a rubbish time to organize a celebration! People are saving money for NYE, visiting relatives, back at work etc. So i now have a birthday party at the end of January! Payday weekend so people aren't skint and we have a great time!

I'll be 28 in a few weeks and have decided this year to try and celebrate on the day (for the first time in years!). I want to go ice skating followed by a happy meal and then drinks in the evening! I'm still a big kid!

Fianc!'s Christmas work party has been held on his birthday for the past 2 years which is good because lots of people will be there to celebrate etc but rubbish as its work colleagues only so we don't see each other! We usually get other friends together on the nearest weekend to his birthday to celebrate! Which works out well!
  • Ds2 is 16 on xmas day, I said from the moment he was born that he had to have separate presents.
Now he is older he sometimes asks for a big present rather than 2 separate ones, but my bro will give him cash, but birthday cash in one card and xmas cash in xmas card,
He says he quite enjoys all the attention on xmas day, no one has to go to work and he gets his fave dinner, (he loves turkey, sprouts and chestnut stuffing)and in the evening he can see mates when they are all fed up of their families
He has asked for his 18th birthday party to be in the summer, just to see what its like
