Bitsy - Your post re kids stockings made me remember my DS2's stocking. He is 15 now and just after he was born (25th Nov) he became very critically ill with a very serious heart defect which was later successfully repaired. We had decided that that as we were totally skint that he wouldn't have christmas pressies or stocking. Anyway he came off ventilation on xmas eve and we left the hospital at 3.30 for an hour and scoured the shops to buy him a stocking and pressies. Well there was only a really knaff one available with rudolph but it meant the world to us and to my DS who still uses it and is aware of its history. So I think your stockings are very special and will mean the world to your kiddies.xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Have just read the thread but not much has stayed in my brain!
But wanted to send (((hugs))) to Zippy & Heavenleigh.
Tired-mum - thanks for asking, we should finish the list of damaged stuff tomorrow, faxed off the builders quote yesterday but the insurance company aren't happy with it so are speaking to the builders direct. Also I have left 3 messages with the policman involved and he hasn't got back to me yet!
Anyway the good news is I have done 90% of my Xmas shopping, popping into town tomorrow for some little bits then I am more or less done.:j0 -

Evening All
Strange day. Back at work after a long weekend so its felt like Monday all day...
Anyway... I got my act into gear this morning and browned some mince and but it in the slow cooker with onions and gravy made with bisto best (was 75p for a big jar in Lidl) and so when I got into work just peeled a few spuds and put some frozen veg on .....mash, mixed veg and mince n onion in gravy - was perfect for a cold gloomy day and their was clean plates all round.
DH re-arranged the living room today to get the sofa away from the radiator and gave the place a good tidy while he was at it. He said our 'cupboard of death' of the kitchen (where everything gets put to die:rotfl:) is on his agenda for tomorrow!
I've a good few MS jobs lined up for the rest of the week and i'm hoping to get them sorted on Thursday morning as I'm not going into work until after lunch as DS2 has physio and that will just leave me with a couple that I could get done during late night shopping on Thursday.
I still haven't been threw the small mountain that is santa's stash yet to see what i've actually bought so I think I'll try and get that done on Sunday - kids permitting!
I didn't do a meal plan this week (for no other reason than sheer dis-organisation and wanton idleness!) so I'm not sure what to do for dinner tomorrow....some mince left for a pie but then.....jacket spuds maybe? with cheese & beans?....
Apologies for the ramblings......Zippychick let me know what it is your looking for and I'll keep an ear out....2 heads are better than one n all that!
Enjoy your evening

Leigh I had the MMR and still had mumps. When I was pregnant with ds I was allergic to the baby and had 6 months off work and a terrible rash. Because of my allergic history, ds has had separate vaccinations. He has had measles and rubella, but is still waiting for mumps. Such decisions are not made easily, so rest easy that you did the best for your baby.
Right, I am doing naff all in the way of OS, sorry, apart from ironing, and defrosting meals out of the freezer. There is still a man painting the hall during the day (4 flights of stairs and 4 landings, and lots of polyfilla required. It could take some time. He was only supposed to paint the top half, but has correctly assessed me as incompetent in the house repair department and has offered to do the lot. He made such a good job of the top half that I've let him carry on.
The cat came into season yesterday, and emerged from the Christmas tree where she had taken up residence yowling and shouting "fetch me a tom cat" in cat language. After she offered to let the painting man make babies with her in an embarrassing (and totally un-reciprocated) display of affection, I phoned the breeder who told me to give her half a piriton tablet. This worked, and only wore off half an hour before the lovely lady that I bought her from came to collect her to be spayed this evening. Lucky she was collected when she was, as she was making very amorous advances to one of Grumpy the house elf's care bear teddies, who I fear was not able for what the cat required.
I have a photo of the cat living in the tree, which I would love to show you all, but unfortunately I can't remember how to resize the thing to go on here.
Take care all of you0 -
Evening all
Lousy end to the day, hubby's had a phone call telling him he's not suitable for the job he started yesterday, he's gutted & so am I. He works so bloody hard & all he gets is another kick in the teeth.
It seems the agency were told not to send anyone over 50, it's taken them 2 days to work out how old he is.

Oh !!!!!!! I could cry for him I really could. They would rather have a younger person who may be useless, than your hardworking minder......how stupid they are.0 -
Hester, so sorry to hear about the minders job, makes me mad, they must have known his age, and being over 50 does not stop him doing anything , give him a big hug from me xx0

Evening everyone
Zippy - so know where you are coming from, I did 18 months at a job I really hated, decided I had to hand my notice in, felt great when I did, after a few weeks out of work I was applying for anything and everything (actually thats how I got the job I hated in the first place) Was out of work for 6 months and have the credit card bill to prove it!, don't like my job now and am applying for stuff again, and also I feel guilty if I see a job that I know I can do and don't apply, am sick to the teeth of jobcentreplus website, and the local council, nhs, sites etc etc. I have also decided that I will do nothing till new year, then I will search with a vengance.
Leigh - NO WAY are you a bad mum. I went through something similar with the whooping cough jab, at the time my sister was classed as a close enough relative who had had convulsions, so although the Drs didn't say no, they didn't say yes either. DD got whooping cough when she was 7, boy was I made to feel like a bad mum, until nurse at the health centre, pointed out to me, Drs do not like notifiable diseases, causes a lot of paperwork! My DS also had mumps, jab wasn't available then...when they did the catch up they still wanted to give him the jab, but I said no.
Cranky - :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:@ the cat and the care bear
Hope everyone has a peaceful night and cyas in the morning xx
Hester - just seen your post, that is soooo unfair, why the hell did it take them so long to work out how old he was! (((hugs))) for you and minder, heres hoping he finds another job that knocks the socks off that one. What is this over 50 thing? why do people just not think, ahhh over 50, loads of life experience etc, same as when you are filling in application forms and they want to know what exams you got when you were 16! !!!!!! I have learnt more since I left school than I did in all the years I was there, again hugs to you both xxwhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
