Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 8th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Christmas QOTD: Santa is very jolly because he knows where all the bad girls live. ~ Dennis Miller
N9eav - Thank you for the tip re pork, but we often buy a shoulder of pork from Mr T's and never had a piece like this before. We tend to give it longer than they suggest which normally makes it nice.
PenPen - I saw Jamie cook shoulder of pork long and slow like you suggested and it looked really fabulous.
Mummysaver - all that knitting and crocheting sounds fab!
Halight - glad the twins are enjoying the christmas 'grotto', and good to hear from you.
dazi - The bunting looks fab! Well done you.
celyn - Your party costumes sound great. I once went to a fancy dress party as a picnic rug.. we sewed on paper plates and plastic cutlery etc. Was great fun.
Nomoneymummy - welcome back
Haribo - Well done on winning the raffle, that is great. Sorry you are missing your dad and step-mum but glad you had a lovely weekend with them.
Taplady - how is Janet doing? Hope you had a good visit with her.
Vampiric Addiction - Nice to see you posting and the cinnimon vodka sounds... umm... interesting. :rotfl:
Redruby hon - all fingers and toes crossed that you get the call you want today. It's making it hard to type but you are worth it. smile_tongue.gif
Lamewolf - I am pleased it went well, I was thinking of you.
Nic1 - Oooh what a lovely prize to win, hope you have a great time.
pammyj - comforting.gif No, you didn't sound like a grump, you just sounded like someone who needed to get things off their chest, and here is a good place to do that hon.
Thank you all so much for the continued good wishes and thoughts going out to Tristan and his family. He is a bit low tonight.. normally he does the Christmas prep like cutting down the Christmas tree and getting it back to the ranch house and putting up the exterior lights etc but of course is on strict bed rest so is frustrated and feeling a bit left out of things.
xmastree.gif I watched 'Fanny Cooks Christmas' last night from 1975 and oh gosh it was fun. She was so forthright and did about 15 different things with mincemeat in about 20 mins and I am actually going to try one. It's amazing what she cooked on the old style kitchen oven.. no fancy burners and pans for her! My OH was busy laughing at her eyebrows and also her 'helpers' dress though. We decided that Fanny must have been a popular figure for drag queens back in the day bless her! :rotfl:
xmastree.gif My peace lily (named Colin - can't remember why) has had one tall white lovely flower for over three months now, and it still looks lovely.
xmastree.gifLunch is going to be soup and sandwiches and tonights dinner will be a kind of buffet to use up lots of odds and ends that are in the fridge.. The kind of thing we used to have for dinner in the summer when we couldn't be bothered to cook!!
I hope everyone has a good day today and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love and light and HShuggies.gif for all.

Morning all. I've been MIA lately due to house renovations taking over our lives. There was such a lot of dust from all the sanding-down that DH has done, so we had a major clear-up yesterday, and he's been told in no uncertain terms to find something else to do that doesn't need sanding-down - I'm sick of seeing the dust everywhere.

I haven't been keeping up with the thread, despite my good intentions, so I will try to today. I need to get my Christmas cards written out, so I shall start that today, plus I'm knitting and crocheting like mad to get presents made - Christmas is just getting closer and closer now, isn't it?

OS-wise, I managed to get the ironing done yesterday - the mountain was getting higher and higher so I just had to make myself do it.

Today, I'm making some leek and mushroom soup; I've made loads of different soups lately, and they've gone down really well, plus they are so cheap to make, especially if you use the veggies that are past their best.

Dinner tonight will be something with pork chops - probably a basic roast dinner.

Well, I hope everyone is keeping well. (((Hugs))) to those who aren't.

    Have a great day, everyone.

    Morning all,

Another really hot day again. DGS is sitting watching TV with the fan on him. I love Shawn the Sheep. :D We're going downstairs to have a paddle shortly but it's still a bit hot. I made my aberdeen sausages this morning and their in the freezer for Christmas. It's an old scottish recipe I only make this time of the year. You boil it in rags & roll in breadcrumbs. I did it straight after breakfast as my kitchen is like a sauna in the afternoon.

Taking DGS to the pool tomorrow for the Play Group breakup & then will grab some groceries after wards. I feel a headache coming on already. :D I've done all my cards now so I just need to post them. DGS & I put up our tree and decorations today as well. DH just has to do the lights outside now.

Ruby Hope you hear today. Good luck.
    Mandi You have batteries. :D

Hope you all have a great day. <hugs> to those that need them. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Morning. Just a quick one as I have to get ready to go to my course in Exeter.
The course is great! Had our office meal last night in a posh restaurant.

WARNING Do not play a game at your Christmas meal. We did and it's where you have 12 chocolates and some dice. One Choccy has chili in it. You roll the dice and eat the relevant numbered choccy hoping you don't get the chili one. One of the ladies did and after eating it... barfed on the table. We had to leave a bigger tip.

More rain forecast today, so another driving nightmare.

I see we had a pork discussion yesterday. I still think shoulder is more fatty than leg, but a good butcher can prepare it to be a nice lean cut. Tesco tend to cut and pack and don't trim, hence garbage sometimes. They can't mess leg up too badly.

    Cheers

  • Mioliere - it's always nice to see you posting and keeping us updated on the house renovations.
bargainbird - oooh thanks for the pics, I love seeing peoples crafty stuff and they are lovely!
Aussie - I love Shaun the sheep too, but am a bit of a W and G fan anyway.
N9eav - I have seen that game in shops before and wondered if anyone played it, now I know... Poor girl, it must have been a hot chilli! :rotfl:I have told my OH never to buy shoulder from Tescos again but think we will take yesterdays advice and try a butchers and cook it long and slow.

I'm dreaming of a white christmas,
just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
to hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white christmas,
with every christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright,
and may all your Christmases be white

    Morning :hello:
    In my calendar - a robin :snow_grin
On saturday, mr tru had what we thought was a stye, then we thought it was conjunctivitis, then he had stabbing pains so went to the doc yesterday. He made him wait for a second opinion, then they wanted him straight down the hospital. The hospital couldn't see him straight away so he's going in this morning. They suspect something (can't remember the name of it) that his mum had - she went blind from it  Will let you know later.

BargainBird - they are very impressive
N9eav - that made me laugh - I like chilli chocolate but I guess the one in that game is a bit overloaded

Wet and miserable here again. Am in the office this morning then housework this afternoon, got all the ironing done yesterday :j. Think today will give my bedroom a good going over and the kitchen floor needs some attention.

Must phone the builders re the burnt worktop.

Nice and easy sausage and mash for dinner.

    Morning all,

Tru good luck for Mr Tru today, I hope all goes well xx

Bargain they are great, particulaly love the monkey :T

Thanks again for the good wishes, hopefully today will be the day, I was speaking to the EA yesterday and someone mentioned moving on the 22nd , we will hopefully find out soon.

More delightful packing today  i think Im going to try and finish the kitchen, and maybe start on the clothes.

Tea tonight is cold chicken from yesterday, with mash and veg, slowly running the freezer down too. Yesterday OH and I had a choc ice and they tasted of chilli , there is a big bag of chillis two drawers down in the freezer, seems like they have tainted the ice cream.

I have a wash to do this morning, and a general tidy round.

    Have fun all xx
