omg sore bum

not mine.

guessed the best place to ask would be this board. as its the weekend and lack of chemists and doctors around....

young 'boris' [not his real name he just happens to remind me of boris johnson] has the most red raw bum bless him. he is just comin up for 2 and is still in nappies as dont quite get the whole potty thing yet.

i have been using the prescribed from last time cream that has to be kept in the fridge to no avail and have also been using sudocrem on a rotational basis. it started late friday night though had been a bit red before.

he hasnt had a change in nappy brand or wipes used [between ourselves and nursery]. the only change is he now wears one of them fleecy sleepsuits that zip up that we put on backwards because he cannot keep his clothes on and removes all clothes and nappy in the middle on the night or early morning [6am]. obviously i change his nappy if he does wake for that reason. the boy just wants to be naked all the time.

anyways, his bottom is red raw. does anyone else have any tips seeings as the prescribed previous and sudocreme aint working. vaseline? he squeals when i put a nappy on him and if i could let him be nappy free i would but last time he peed all over the plug socket which isnt a good thing [its a 'safe' socket but even so thats dangerous]
There's someone in my head, but it's not me

    Aw, poor baba :(

I don't have kids Ant so not sure how helpful my suggestions will be, but have you tried Bepanthen? (sp?) Also, maybe put the sudocrem, or some other lotion in the fridge to cool it down?

A nice cool bath then some cooling lotion will probably ease the discomfort?

Also, does he have a little play pen type thing that he could sit in with no bottoms on to get air to his wee bum?

As I said probably not a lot of help but try my best!

Egg white left to dry on their bare bums, is a good natural healer;):D

My mum told me to use plain flour when DD had severe nappy rash, and to try and leave nappy off as much as possible, it cleared up within a day or so. You might want to check with the doctor or HV tho, as he may have thrush, in which case he may need a steriod/anti fungal cream.

Mine tended to get sore bums when cutting new teeth or if I changed nappy/wipe brand.

Hope you get it sorted soon, I know how distressing it can be when your baby is suffering.

  • One that's always worked with me ... Egg whites mixed with flour till it makes a paste, then spread that on thinly. It's worked wonders with my 2 ... Don't ask me why

Fresh air to his botty is best as has already been said.

Try some virgin coconut oil. Holland and Barratts sell it.

The wipes will irritate him when he is sore already, however mild they claim to be. Try them yourself next time you have a sore patch and you'll see what I mean! Most soothing thing to clean sore bums is some olive oil (from the kitchen will do) on a piece of gauze if you have it, otherwise some cotton wool. It's even better and more gentle than just water.

Some time in the air will help too, as might a tepid bath. Did the rash coincide with a new pack of nappies? Is it possible that he's reacting to a change the manufacturer has made to your normal brand? If so, you might need to try a few other brands to see if that helps. My DD developed a nasty allergy to huggies at around the same age, and looked like a babboon every time we put one on before we realised what the problem was!

If OTC creams aren't helping, you probably need something on a script from GP if you can get hold of one tomorrow.

my youngest used to have the most awful sore bottom when little tried everything changed nappies/wipes and creams as was told it may be partly due to her excema. i was then told about METANIUM cream fantastic stuff, very greasy and it does stain but at the time i didnt care as it worked so well

  • Is the skin broken? Firstly, I would make sure he is drinking lots of fluids as this would water down his urine to not sting as much.

Ant, have you tried Bepanthen (sp) cream?
Good advice above about using olive oil instead of baby wipes.
    Also a tepid bath.
But i would get a prescription for a different type of cream tomorrow from the Dr if i where you.
