Hello to all moneysavingexpert.com members. Last friday I purchased a Samsung i8510 8G clearance phone from mobiles.co.uk. It was the ideal deal for me: 600 mins, unltd texts on O2, 25£ p/m (12.50£ p/m after redemption), 24 months. I received the phone yesterday and I left it to charge overnight as it was the first battery charge for it. This morning I used it for about one hour and it started to get warm. I left the flat to go shopping and left the phone on the desk... when I got back after one hour the phone was switched off and really hot. I tried to turn it on but no results.I am very sad about this situation. What would you advice me to do in this situation? Many thanks for all your answers.0

You have to contact the company and ask for either a new replacement phone or cancel the contract in writing before this Friday. Make sure you get it all in writing and don't rely on false promises or procedures which don't work!0

Watch the cancellation option; the t&c state "If you have changed your mind and wish to return your phone, you will need to inform us within 7 days. Once the return request has been accepted you will need to send the item back to our warehouse within 2 days. Please note that if we do not receive the item within 2 days of authorising a return then the return process will be cancelled and the item in question will be sent back to you. Upgrade and Pay as You Go phones will also need to be returned within 7 days."
In other words, they allow you a whole 2 days IF you manage to get them to accept the return otherwise it's too late!0 -

Welcome to the forum,
The first problem as you probably realise now is that the term "Clearance" phone is realy repaired / faulty phones / returned / unwanted etc etc etc
Which is why there seems to be problems with the. Sometimes people are lucky with what they get and others have problems ...So the first decision is are you going to try the same again ....If so you need to get it sent back at the same tme as requesting a replacement.
If you change your mind and decide to get a new phone you will need to cancel the contract asap and get the phone back to them by recorded del asap. It's not just about the money0 -
Hi All,
Just a quick update on my decision...
I dont think I will risk placing an order with mobiles.co.uk as there seems to be too many negative responses both here and on other threads, I havent even looked elsewhere on the web!
The person you call Ben, the official rep, doesnt seem to have a CS centred approach to doing business and I'm afraid that his responses to some of the people who were trying to give me advice helped me to make my final decision.
I think I have found the deal I'm going to go with, so all that remains is to say a big thanks to all who posted.
Thank you all.

I had them on the phone and they explained me that I can't cancel the contract as I used the SIM card even if it was for only one hour... also they were glad to exchange my phone with the same model or with a different one. To be honest... I don't think that I want a clearance phone now after this accident. So if I can't cancel the contract I might go for another type of phone as long as it's not a clearance one. I'd really like to have the i8510 but they only have clearance ones.0 -
+1 for a dissapointing experience of mobiles.co.uk. I ordered a Samsung Tocco Lite Clearance about 3 days ago which stated "Limited Stock" on the website. It was a good deal they were offering so i couldn't refuse. Anyway after waiting 3 days for the next day delivery they phone this morning saying its out of stock so would i like the normal tocco lite on a completely different contract. She said it was 15/pm with so many months half price. I asked how much it would work out to be per month over the length of the contract. Do you know the woman said she couldnt tell me!!? She is the one who was sitting in an office with the info in front of her and she was expecting me who waas just out of my bed to do the calculations and accept a contract without all the info. I cancelled today and my new tocco from dialaphone is arriving tommorow.0

I would not go for a clearance phone ever again... I've learned my lesson. I had them on the phone earlier and they said that I can't cancel my contract because I used my SIM and handset. This is not a problem as I do need a mobile phone contract and O2 is fine with me but I want a good working phone. They also said that they are going to contact me in about one hour with other mobile phone offers. It's been two hours now

Is it possible to cancel my contract even if I used the phone and the SIM? Many thanks!0 -
Mihaita,
