Abbey: No Counter Service <£30!

The problem with any post about Abbey on here is that people all jump to criticise.
In many cases it is justified, and I too have had my problems with Abbey. i have however always found the counter staff will try and do whatever they can to help, and normally send you to the phones because it is simply easier for you to ring than have them ring and relay everything between you and the same call centre
In this case, Nationwide have the same policy - I remember it being mentioned in a post, but no one was quite so vociferous as Abbey threads get. It would be nice to see a bit of balance and equal treatment on these forums
Have you ever thought why posters jump to criticise? You could spend a month of Sundays criticising real banks, but Abbey are head and shoulders above the rest in providing very poor customer service.Santander - usted puede silbar para su dinero0 -
Haven't read all the posts, but I was behind someone in Abbey the other day. He was told not less than £30. He said OK I'll take £150. He then deposited £130, job done! This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

wishface,
I am afraid that Abbey no longer value your - or anyone else wishing to draw <£30 over the counter - business. In the nicest possible way, I would suggest you find a new bank. If enough people vote with their feet, maybe they will sit up and take notice... but I doubt it. We aren't very militant in this country. :-(
(I don't work for or have any accounts with the Abbey. My last account with them was closed in the 80s because their customer service was pi**-poor then and doesn't seem to have improved any.)
Some of the replies in this thread beggar belief. I have reported one in particular and I would encourage others to do the same. The post breaks the rules of this forum, as is my interpretation of them.0 -

Do you not think this is an over reaction to a relatively minor change? Only a tiny minority of Abbey customers are going to be incredibly inconvenienced. Everyone else will withdraw over £30, use an ATM, use their debit card, or use the Post Office. If there were no alternatives I could perhaps understand, but as per my previous post, I think folk are being a bit melodramatic.
Also, it is worth noting (as I have already been accused) that I do not work for Abbey. In fact, I'm not even a customer. I'm also perfectly aware of Abbey's less favourable customer service record. However, on this occasion, I think what could generally be described as a minor inconvenience has been blown out of all proportion.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
I'd love a few of the unwanted small fry customers Abbey lose through this policy to become very rich and deposit their money elsewhere.
That would be the correct way for them to be dealt with.0 -

Agreed, one of them was targeted at me, I have also reported it to the abuse section.0 -

Just want to add my support. Completely inappropriate (and rather bizarre) abuse. Turns a perfectly amicable discussion in to a petulant slagging match.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong.
