Abbey: No Counter Service <£30!

Which is to say that since, IIRC, this past monday, I can no longer withdraw amounts less than £30 at the till. Apparently this is The Abbey's way of dealing with huge queues (as opposed to hiring more staff or something). As someone with not much money in the bank who withdraws smaller amounts, this really doesn't help. Surely this can't be legal - stopping people getting access to their money!

It's certainly legal. They are a business. They can choose what services they offer to customers. And if they don't offer a service that you want, there are plenty of other places you can go - none of the big five banks restrict you in this way (note that Nationwide has a similar restriction).

Also, what's wrong with using an ATM?
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Indeed. This, plus the question of legality, just makes this thread reek of entitlement.

Nothing at all, except for sums of money that don't multiply in ten pound notes.
