Pretty sure it was much more than an inch of space - i dont recall it being a squeeze though. Next time i get up the loft i'll measure a roll ...need to get up there sometime to measure up for some extra timbers myself (keep putting off because i know it'll feel freezing up there!).0

I received my insulation on Monday, having ordered on 17th December. Installed enough to cover the entire loft floor last night (some hairy moments crossing joists without the crawl board support!) and am very pleased with the result. The house is definitely warmer already - £12 very well spent!
One bad note though, as with (I suspect) all loft insulation, this stuff was horrid when it got on to the skin - we were careful in covering up, but it snuck in - and had to shower straight afterwards. It's clung to my clothes post-wash too, so I'll be picking wool for quite some time to come!0 -
Too late now but Poundland sell them white disposable hooded overalls for
£10 -
not sure if its a waste of time removing the old loose insulation< as anybody else done this?
I have removed 90% of the loose fill that covered our entire loft. It is a horrible task, very, very dirty indeed. It doesn't itch at all but creates hellish clouds of dusty insulation fibres. I am glad I have removed it because I have unearthed the dodgy electrics hidden beneath it and am in the process of having that rectified. Funniest thing I saw was two wood screws about 5mm from the thick main electric cable where a previous muppet had screwed something through the ceiling below, lol, they probably didnt realise how close they were too a shocking experience
If you dont know the history of your electrics I would take it out, if you do I would leave it. If you do take it out get a load of disposable overalls that you can bin and some good p2/p1 masks.0 -

as nailed a piece of 1 inch skirting all the way round the joist's making the loft opening 22 inch wide not 24 inch, but then the ceilings been plastered upto this, gonna cut out the plaster on the ceiling then rip out the skirting and make a new loft hatch lid, cant wait to make the mess. rolls should go through with no problems i hope0 -

Ring your local build center branch now!!!!!
I ended up buying some insulation from Wickes on their 'buy one, get three free' offer after ringing Build Centre on Monday 14th, and hearing the offer was gone. Now i read this and realise it might have still been running! Doh! Nevermind, I managed to do my whole loft for the £30 it cost me for the Wickes stuff with no itching and no problems installing.
I'm sure this £1 offer will come around again at some point, and so will top up accordingly then.0 -
Samnjarv, the 100mm rolls are actually about 15" diameter0
