It also seems to be £5 per month (perhaps you'll get a discount though if you also have the Alarm monitoring)

The camera can be bought for as little as £57.74 inc according to Froogle (search for intamac).

I, like FF99, need some guidance and reassurance concerning the telephone monitoring side of this system. Will it operate as a standalone alarm system if it isn't connected to a phone line? alternatively, if it is connected to a telephone line but the user has not programmed into the system the relevant emergency contact numbers and registered these with BT, will the system otherwise function as an alarm system and activate when sensors are triggered. Makes all the diffrerence as to whether I'd buy one or not. I don't want to be payiing out £60 per year to ensure that the basic alarm works, anyone know for sure?

    Hi Deadlion,

I have received my alarm and it can work as a basic alarm if you choose not to sign up to the subscription service.

Would be great if we can work out a way to bypass the £5/month subscripton!

Can you just clarify ? Dosen't beep if not connected to a line, or must be connected but can dial non-service numbers ?

Thanks for that, Lionking, that's reassuring. all in all, having read a number of different reviews about this system, I think I'll invest as it seems to be pretty decent and reliable and I feel good value at under £90. The PC world pack which extends it would suit me for the extra two rooms I want covered and I've read that you can get a wireless external bell for this system on e-bay for about £80. Taken them all together You'd have a pretty good system for abot £200 even if you didn't take the BT monitoring system....Control panel, 3 Pirs, 2 magnetic contacts, 2 key fobs, dummy box and wireless external bell. That has to be pretty good value, no?

It is good value for money.

FF99 - I haven't connected mine to a line yet and working as a basic alarm.

It was beeping intermitentky last night (eg every hour or so i think) however i was tinkering with today and there is option to turn off beeps in the user settings. I have turned beeps off and i havent heard it this evening so far.

Thats what I was trying to find out, to see if you could talor it by maybe created som sort of intranet web site, hosted on you own PC, which send the signal using other methods, maybe like using the DVR motion detection software found on wireless camera's?

I am sure you can set up one yourself. software are available which take pictures when motion is detected and sends them pictures as emails to you. I know this because i was looking into this a while back. Not too sure if phone alert is available also but one thing you could do is if you have an orange.net email is get alerts when you recieve an email. I have my alerts for my ebay emails sent to my orange phone so i get to keep track of all sold and unsold items and messages. Seems gmail will also be providing the text alert facility soon.

I would greatly appreciate confirmation on this, as it's currently the only thing stopping me buying it ! I really want to use it for monitoring whilst we are at home and therefore the whole online reporting service would be a drawback rather than an advantage. Interestingly the price for this seems quite low and the reason is obviously to entice one into the BT subscription, so I assume it is subsidised; hence my concern that it may be set up to make it unusable without the subscription. Hope that explains.

Only other question is the wireless range. Are we talking cordless phone, wireless intranet range, which barely reaches from top to bottom of our house, or is it better than that ?

FF99,Page 33 of the instructions, don't disable it just change the number to your mobile and backup to a person you trusts mobile. I guess you will get a load of noise down the line but you will know its your alarm going off wherever you are.You could then call next door or the police (although they wont go out unless there is a witness to a break in).
    Communications Settings

This menu option allows you to change operational settings for your system including:
    • 1st Telephone Number
    • Property ID Number
    • 2nd Telephone Number
    • Two Way Voice
    • Send ON / OFF

    1ST TELEPHONE NUMBER
This is the number your system will call to contact the BT Home Monitoring centre. This is pre-programmed and should not be changed.Note that the telephone number has an 0870 prefix, meaning your system will not be able to dial the monitoring service if you use national rate call barring on your telephone line.

    PROPERTY ID NUMBER
This is the number which was e-mailed to you at the end of your online account set up process. It is known as your PROPERTY ID NUMBER, whichidentifies your property to the BT Home Monitoring centre. Once input – it should not be changed.

    2ND TELEPHONE NUMBER
This is the back-up number your system will call to the BT Home Monitoring centre. This is pre-programmed and should not be changed.

    TWO WAY VOICE
This function is currently not available.

    SEND ON / OFF
This option allows your BT Home Monitor VP1000 to send a message to the BT Home Monitoring service every time it is switched on and off. This is a useful feature, as you can view the status of your system remotely from yourpersonal online account, to tell if your alarm is switched on or off. You can use this feature to tell if you or another member of your household remembered to switch on the system before leaving home. Note this will result in outgoing calls from your property so the default is off.*

Choices are: Send NO On / Off (default), Send On/ Off.

    * Note that call charges will apply each time your system makes an outgoing call.

Has anyone tested changing it to their mobile number then setting it off?!?!

What about if I don't have a phone line, can I just use it as a stand alone alarm?
