Does anyone know if there is a way of adding a camera to this alarm?

YES...you can easily add the Linksys WVC54G Wireless Camera.

Still waiting to hear if anyone has got this operating successfully when not connected to a phone line, or if there is a way of fooling it into thinking that it is connected.

As most of the cost of the device is its ability to make calls, why don't you just buy a cheaper alternative?

Alternatively, if you connect a 48V supply to it via a resistor then that would be a first attempt at fooling it. It depends whether it just looks for voltage on the line or does something more sophisticated such as checking for a dial tone or actually making a call.

Have you looked into the spec of the Linksys WVC54G??

    :shake:

I believe it comes with it's own Webserver, thus you should be able to connect to it from the internet (provided your firewall has IP/Port forwarding) and see what pictures it's recorded.

If you want the pictures automatically sent to a mobile via MMS then you'll have to pay for a service!!

But if you're not paying for the BT alarm service then you'll never know when to look at the web-cam!! I.E. the Value-Added-Services do provide extra value...

Can you not bypass the serivce and use you own methods to send out MMS's etc. Also, how does thr Alarm system notify you and send you pictures of the camera?. Fine, it uses the IP address of the webcam, but how does it know what it is and how to find it, can you break into the interface of the Alarm system and redirect it to say your own web based manager system?

I don't have either the alarm or the webcam yet (still thinking about it), just read up an awful lot.

From the Intamac web-site it seems the webcam can be set "active" if the alarm is active. I suspect if the alarm is triggered, it will in turn trigger the camera to send out the MMS pictures (via some website belonging to the Alarm Monitoring company) - the camera always uploads via the Internet. Also, if the camera is triggered before/without the alarm I assume it will still send the pictures out via the same website.

I don't believe the webcam can send out FREE MMSs without some sort of subscription - unless there's a free MMS website you know of and can configure the webcam accordingly (ie all data can be provided in one command-line/webaddress).

Thats what I was trying to find out, to see if you could talor it by maybe created som sort of intranet web site, hosted on you own PC, which send the signal using other methods, maybe like using the DVR motion detection software found on wireless camera's?
  • From what I read on the Intamac site if I want to integrate the camera into the alarm system then I need to subscribe to the Intamac home monitoring service. I can't find on the site how much this would be. Also how much is the camera?

    Any ideas?
