I have a cat and it doesn't set it off. Apparently it uses a patented "pet friendly" system so it can tell by the way things move wether its a pet or something like that. I think basically it just doesnt go off if whatevers moving is below a certain height/size.

I'm still on the 3 month trial so not paying the £5 a month yet. Had a nose through the menus on the box though, there is an option to change the number it dials, but I imagine it would scream down the phone like a modem when you anwsered.

Just to be clear: If I don't want to hook this up to a phone line at all (or the internet), will it work ? Does the control box have an internal 'siren' of any sort that is audible inside the house, or is an additional siren required ? If so, can one hear it all round the house or is it a fairly localised noise ?

    Thanks !

Have looked at the instructions which specify connection to a phone line as a requireement. I assume that this is because BT want to sell their monitoring service, rather than because the kit won't work without a connection ???

I suspect it will be in a permanent fault state if you do not have a phone line connected. It will be forever beeping at you to remind you to check the system - phone line.

    Hi,

Got mine too. If you llok at the back of the box it stipulates that systems boughts after 2003 only come with 3 months monitoring. ,,probably explains why box price has been reduced (not 12 months unfortunately as mentioned in manual)

ps Can you still get alerts if you don't sign up to monitoring service?
