Do you have to sign up to BTs service to use it online and get text messages or calls when the alarm is triggered and do you have to have an account with BT?

There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.

This was discussed on the DVD forums ( www.thedvdforums.com ) last time these systems were on offer. Apparently there is a way to alter the number called by the system. Normally it will act as a modem and dial BT's monitoring centre who in turn send the txt, phone and email messages. By changing the number you can get it to dial your mobile number.

It will lose the txt and e-mail alert side of things if you do this but it will save you £5 a month. The other benefit of subscribing is the BT system will alert up to 3 people. If you change the number it will only do 1 afaik.

does anyone who has one know if it is pet friendly.

    Edit:
