OS Daily Thread - Thursday 3rd December

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 3rd December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content, and please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends.
Thank you all SO much for all the pm's and mentions and thoughts yesterday, I really appreciate them and I made sure Tris knows as well as telling his dad when I spoke to him yesterday. His family are really touched and send their thanks.
Tru - Sooo good to have you back to do the carols for us, I felt like such an imposter yesterday even if it was fun.. :rotfl:
OS wise - well I have cards to make and a parcel to get packed and wrapped and organised for the postman. I also need to do my Christmas Tesco's order. I nipped on and booked my Christmas date with a mini order and now I can go in and order the big stuff and amend as the time gets closer.
Todays lunch is left over pasta bake with some crusty HM rolls and dinner will be YS chicken and leek pie with YS veg that my OH picked up last night and mashed pots from the big sack that seems to be never ending.. Bit like the magic porridge pot, it just keeps giving.
I hope everyone has a good day today. To anyone feeling under the weather
- get well soon. With love, light and
for all.

Halight - I think you are very brave eating heart - I am not sure I could ever do it, never mind persuade my OH to try it!
Redruby - I will be there as fast as my hip will allow..
And it is feels better today thanks, not half as stiff.
lowesy - I have two silk pillowcases and I take them into the shower with me and wash them while I am there.. it doesn't take very long at all and saves all the palaver.
Elona - Hope you find yourself the perfect top for the 'do' and Christmas and well done on the weight loss.
Lamewolf - Hope you feel better today hon
Purple - I think you should do whatever you want to do for your '0' birthday. Sorry your DH was disparaging - maybe he has bought you something and is annoyed because it's not on your list? (giving him the benefit of the doubt here!)
Lamewolf- Hope you feel better today hon
Haribo - Any chance of seeing the knitted stocking garland? It sounds fab. I can't knit to save my life so would love to see them.
And yes, re Tristan, I really thought as it was nearly a month since his major op, that he was getting better and better, albeit slowly - he seemed to be despite the pain. He was more himself definitely and I was beginning to relax again, but I guess his body had other ideas. Have to say they got him in and operated really fast, I was impressed. And very relieved that he is still with us. His father said they are trying to get him moved back home with a nurse as soon as they are able to.

Good morning MSD and all who follow.
I'm glad that, as you say, Tris is still with us. Let's hope they can get him back home asap.
Well, I've either been helping with the renovations or trying to get Christmas presents organised.
MSD - there are several tutorials online to help you learn to knit and crochet - I'm making most of my pressies this year and I'm really enjoying it, plus it's very money-saving. If you take a look at the Knit Your Square thread, there are links to tutorials and so on - might be something you can have a go at in the New Year? There are also loads of free patterns online, too - I've forgotten the last time I bought a knitting pattern!
Well, I hope everyone is keeping well and surviving the weather. We've had lots of rain here, too; Monday was a lovely day but yesterday it poured all day. I spent the morning portioning up all the meat I'd bought the day before - I got some real bargains, including 12 really lovely pork chops for just under €7. My freezer is full to bursting with meat now.
Dinner tonight will be potatoes Dauphinois with onions and bacon bits, with salad. DH has gone mad making smoothies lately, so we've been having those for puddings - he has suddenly realised just how useful the blender is; why it's taken this long I don't know. I've had the blender for years. Still, as long as he clears up after he's made them I'm happy, although he has come up with some unusual combinations!
I can't believe it's December already - where on earth has this year gone?
I hope everyone had a good day and lots of (((hugs))) for those who are unwell or worried.

Morning everyone,
I had a lovely day out seeing DSis. Got back about an hour ago. We exchanged Christmas gifts too. The shopping centre was heaving already. I bought a pair of sandals reduced at Big W for $15 & some pj's for DD last gift. I've finished now.I saw that Ruby had posted her OS cards yesterday so I HAD to post mine today as well.
Not quite but I probably won't get to a post office again for a while.
DGS is on the island but I haven't seen him as yet. He's with DS1. They'll probably pop up later. Hopefully not for tea as I plan to have something like baked beans & egg on toast.DH hurt himself today. Our old couch (that was at DS2's house) fell off the back of the truck (don't ask ) and it landed on his head and shoulders. No real damage iywim but he's a bit sore.
JackieO That's a real shame your area doesn't do it for free.
Moiliere I had a craving for banana smoothies with one of my pregnancies. You're right about the year going fast.
Well this has taken ages, phone call in between. Off to bring in the washing. Hope you all have a happy day. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Aussie - that must have hurt! Hope he's not feeling too sore.
My DH narrowly avoided decapitating himself yesterday. He has been painting the front door - it has a glass half-moon shape at the top. He took the glass out to paint the door, then lovingly cleaned it so it was really brand-new looking and shiny, then he put it back in place where it promptly slipped out of his hands and dropped to the floor, just missing his head! The noise was horrendous because it landed on a stone floor. It then took half an hour to clear up. His beautifully-painted door now has an ugly piece of MDF where the glass should be until we can get a new piece cut.

Morning All
MSD - hope Tristan continues to improve
Aussie - get well wishes for Mr A
Another wet start to the day here, rain here was terrible yesterday. Garage is flooding so some of the stuff that wasnt damaged by the crash is getting damaged by the water. OH is going to make a start on it today.
I shall be in my office this morning, ironing this afternoon and trying to fit in housework somewhere. Menu plan has gone to pot this week, may be hm soup for dinner or chilli, will decide later.
Feeling quite overwhelmed by things again so going to bite the bullet and really get stuck into things today.
Watched Delia's Xmas last night that I sky+d, have to say wasnt that impressed but it has reminded me to get the sausage rolls made.
Have a good day.x0 -
Morning All
DD decided at 4:10am that she had finished her 'big sleep' and it was time to get up.....trying to reason with a three year old at that time of the morning is doomed to failure!
So I've been and checked the MS job boards and booked a couple for sunday and I'm going to make a start on writing out my christmas cards...I want to get them posted this week as I have a feeling if I don't they still be sat around me on christmas eve.
I really need to make a list of everything I've bought and make sure I haven't forgotten anything - hopefully get that done this weekend. Not sure when as I have about 16 MS jobs to do and eldest DS-D is with us for the weekend so that means we can't do any from Friday evening to Sunday ....but me and DH and DD are going out for lunch on Sunday - its 'work'
OS wise...i'm a big failure - nothing in the slow cooker, my house is a mess but everyones healthy and happy (especially those that are till sleeping I assume.....) and that's good enough for now.
I know at 37 i'm considered to be a grown up but I can't wait til Santa comes!!:j
Have a good day

Morning.... Way down the list today.
Last day of work and then 3 days off. Un official office party this afternoon. It's where we get the tree out and decorate it for the office. Hopefully everyone will bring in food and then at 1600 we go down the pub. That is unless there is a major incident....
My 8ft tree at home, does not mean I have a big house, the tree takes up a large part of the lounge, but what the hec.
Late night shopping was OK. bit wet, very crowded and not many bargains. The coat I want in TK Maxx is still there, but £99 from £260 is still too much for me. Although I did get my cash back from Amex yesterday £104 :j, may be I should splurge??????????????????????????????????
Well, bin day today, so got to get them out. Still wet and horrible here, the garden is just mud, look like a farmyard. Pity. I hate english weather.
Have a good day....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning.
A quietish day planned here (if there is such a thing with my lot) I need to get the christmas cards written out & posted & do the usual washing, getting it to dry, ironing & hoovering. Lunch is leek & potato soup with crusty bread & dinner this evening is pasta bake with lots of added veggies in a tomato sauce.
The advent calendars have been opened by DS2 & DS3 so far the other 2 are still in the land of nod! We have had to put them on the welsh dresser on the top shelf to stop the dogs helping themselves :rotfl:to anyone who needs one.
I'm another who is like a big kid at Christmas0 -
Have yourself a merry little Christmas

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yule-tide gay
From now on, our troubles will be miles away :xmassmile
In my advent calendar, so far I've had a cracker, a robin and a Christmas tree.
Morningfor Tris.
What with everything going on, I haven't bought a single Christmas present  Must get started. I have a box of cards to deliver tomorrow, about time I made some money - I've done nothing with the biz lately. I'm going to throw myself into it after Christmas and bring some serious cash in.
Not much OS going on here today, just some cake and flapjack making. Then there's the usual housework things.
I've just discovered that the Movies 24 channel has changed to Christmas 24, that is bad cos I'll end up sat in front of the tele all day watching Christmas films  :rotfl:
