If anyone lives in South Yorkshire I go to Underwoods in Rotherham. They mainly sell wholesale to restaurants and pubs etc etc but they have a little shop on site.
Every month I get a meat pack for £20 which consists of 5 huge steaks, 5 huge chicken breasts, 5 thick pork loins, 5 gammon steaks and a massive bag of mince.
the meat is really fresh and great quality and I cannot reccomend them enough.

  • Neglected our butchers and local farm shop lately, due to just being busy and settling for second best from the supermarkets, simply becuase of convenience.

I have a new years resolution to get out on a Saturday and make a point of picking up the weeks meat and veg, as I agree with others the butchers do do a great job and the meat is so tasty and looks more 'real' if you know what I mean.
  • I love my local butchers. He's great, not cheap (but not expensive either), but you buy the amount you need, not how much the supermarket deem you need.

I shop there every week. I am trying to shop locally and use the Supermarkets less.

He also makes things to order and saves things for me....Thanks to Bray's Butchers in Norwich.

  • I'm rubbish in butchers as I never know how much meat to ask for. I usually say something like "enough for 4 people" which is less than useless to the butcher. So now I decide before I go in the butchers how much I want to spend and ask by price.

I've ordered my goose from a local butcher... £70 for 10 pound bird?

Does this seem excessive to anyone else?!

And can anyone recommend any in the Bradford or Leeds area?

I've tried a couple, both of which were superb, but very expensive.
My mother in law lives in Leeds and she uses this butcher

Fantastic meat and in-store products (sausages etc). No idea if they are overly expensive, but the quality is amazing

(They were used by a contestant on Come Dine With Me one day! I nearly expired with the excitement of seeing a butcher I knew from 200 miles away :rotfl:)

I thought it sounded bad, but I agreed to a £20 or £30 deposit over the phone and everything :embarasse

LOVE my farmshop for veggies. The kids really enjoy going too, they like weighing things out and looking at all the different vegetables (it doesn't look the same when its packed up in plastic at the supermarket.) My daughter was particularly fascinated by the carrots, not only is the folliage still on (like a bugs bunny cartoon) but also still has the dirt on - she had never seen that before. We can also see the vegetables being grown out on the farm too, a great education for the kids.

The price in our FS is on average comparable to the supermarkets. Things like FR eggs are cheaper. We get a very friendly service and no queues.
