About 3 months ago I stopped buying my vegetables or meat from the local supermarket.
The reason I did it was because the produce seemed to go off very quickly- as in before BB4 date.
Now I shop for meat in bulk- about £60pm to feed four, and we eat very well. (Pork chops, chicken breasts, braising steak, butchers sausages, braising steak, leg of lamb, pork ribs, belly of pork, lamb breast, leg of pork). Most of these I can stretch to make another meal from left overs.
Vegetables from the farm shop will last two weeks.
I would buy the real DD*2 would leave home.

'fraid I don't do offal either. *ming*
I do shop at local butcher for meat. I find it to be better quality than supermarket meat is its not bulked out with as much water. Ideally I would have a chest freezer for extras but sadley it is not to be.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

Lilac Pixie- Do find that chicken breasts from the butchers, taste completely different from supermarket one's because of the different water content?0

I used to pass a farm shop, but never dared go in as they didn't have their opening times on the sign. The sign was beside a narrow gap in the hedge, leading down a narrow drive/lane to the shop ... I had visions of me driving down there and coming face to face with them serving up their tea in their kitchen window

I can 't go down the narrow lane until I know what times they are open. You'd think they'd have bothered to write on their sign.0 -

Take a deep breath, tell yourself that they won't mind if you just turn around and drive away if they are closed, and go.;););)0 -
What a lovely idea... if only things worked like that in my odd little worldTake a deep breath, tell yourself that they won't mind if you just turn around and drive away if they are closed, and go.;););)
Unless I know the rules, I can't just go. I have to know if they are open before I turn in. It's the rules.0 -
I haven't bought meat in a supermarket for years.
We have excellent local butchers and I can get loads of stuff cut as I like and they are always helpful. I don't think they are cheaper but the service and choice is in a different league.
I love offal. I'm still working on the rest of the rabble.0 -

I know a bit about your world, as you may recall.;)
Do they have a phone number? Call and ask?
It's hard to imagine a farm shop not being open on a Saturday morning, go then.
Wait at the end of the lane and watch cars go in. If they don't come straight back out it must be open.
Give it a try.:D0 -

I know exactly what you mean - my 24 yr old daughter is exactly the same - research is the key - can you or someone give them a ring - are they on a farmers' market type website?0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
