Kirstie's Homemade Christmas

Don't suppose it ever occurred to all you Kirsty haters and general whiners out there that there is a button on your TV marked "OFF" or alternatively for the more technically compentent you could simply have changed channels. Nobody was forced to watch and for those who think you have to use exactly the expensive materials shown in the programme then you have completely missed the point. I imagine if Kirsty had done Christmas on a shoestring we would have had dozens of posts complaining about that as a posh, privileged individual she was being patronisingNO FARMS = NO FOOD0

I just wanted to say I loved all of the shows and will take ideas from there, some things were not to my taste but some were lovely.... making soap and chocolate truffles is on my to do list - although the caustic soda does worry me a bit!
Im sure most of Kirstie`s ideas can be adapted to a budget - maybe not the glass baubles tho and personally for me I wouldn`t buy second hand jars when you can pop down to Ikea/Wilkos etc to pick up new jars to fill with sweets and glow in the dark bugs!
That huge hat made me laugh a lot too!0 -
I loved that hat!

The show has definitely given me some more ideas and I'm sure I'll be able to cut the costs too :rolleyes:0 -
I just find it amazing how someone can make off the cuff comments about how she likes a person but that it is some kind of issue about where her money came from and not expect that comment to be taken as rude in itself.
Kirsties parents are still very much still alive, if you have watched her previous shows you will know her parents have worked hard, moving house regularly to the point Kirstie went to many schools in her academic childhood, they worked and earned themselves their lifestyle, and going by the fact Kirstie runs her own business, and does all her shows and has a family suggests she has a very busy life and is working hard to earn the trappings to go with it.
What I find amazing is that we can be called rude for responding to someones rude assumptions but that the original person who made the comments doesn't seem to recognise how inflammatory such a statement can be.
It is general ignorance and jealousy that brings such statements that somehow a person cannot be likeable if they are of 'Old Money'. This is where a society can seem more divided than it actually is, through total lack of understanding.
Off of my soap box now!0 -
Just wanted to say I have now watched all three programmes and loved them! Apart from feeling really christmassy I have taken some of her ideas away, definitely want to try the dough decs and got some wired xmas ribbon in Homebase for 99p each to try and make some sort of decoration for my presents.
Would love to make crackers from scratch, but already had bought empty ones for a £1 in Asda and intend to pop a little gift in each.0 -
I think a lot of the comments made are justified, some perhaps a little harsh on Kirstie as she's only the 'presenter' so to speak, it could have been anyone that they chose. Let's be thakful it wasn't Anthea Turner!!!
I have watched about 20 mins of the first programme (have the rest on Sky+) and even I found the format of the programme annoying where they kept showing snippets of what was to come, and never really got going. Hoping to watch the rest tomorrow!
I can see where people are coming from with their comments, especially when the programme is called 'Kirsties Homemade Christmas, you would expect it to be things you can make and do at home and I for one don't have facilities in my home to be blowing glass!!!!
I think MSE should be given a slot on TV and all the people who contribute to the Crafting for Christmas thread and other such threads, should be given slots to show how homemade is REALLY done!0 -
Well i liked it and i love Kirsty!
Its called homemade not bargain hunting, or frugal etc. she said at the opening of the series is to avoid mass produced christmas. Well that is exactly what she has done, nothing from a factory or high street store.
I like in a traditional georgian house with a garden full of trees and shrubs so i have been felling just like Kirsty this week. I put on some red lippy, went outside and picked foliage then came inside and spray painted some bits and added them to my home made wreath then dried some oranges in the aga to make some decorations.
The series for me has been a great inspiration and made me feel christmasy.
If anyone knows of where i can find a furry big black hat, let me know.....0 -

Wow you are twisted! I actually made the comment the way I did, ie. saying 'I like Kirstie' to try to indicate that I wasn't having any kind of 'dig' by saying that she was from old money.
Well, I've learned my lesson, paranoia obviously breeds attack! I'll be more blunt next time!
As I already pointed out, I was merely saying, in response to ?you saying she'd worked hard for her wealth, that she was actually born into inherited wealth, and no slur intended. No slur on Kirstie, no slur on Kirsties parents, grandparents, pets, neighbours, staff, or ANYONE ELSE! :rotfl:
But no, you doggedly keep trying to blow it up and make something out of it!
Whatever!
I quite like Kirstie, I've watched the 3 programs, I liked some of the ideas, I have nothing at all against 'old money' people.
IS ALL OF THAT OK WITH YOU?
No? TOUGH!
Now can we get back to the point(s) of the thread.
Sheesh!"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)
' Beam me up NOW Scotty!'

I watched the programmes and got cross with them constantly repeating bits of the film all the time (cheap TV), I thought a lot of the ideas were lovely, but a bit impractical for many people eg glass blowing. However many of the ideas people already do to a greater or lesser degree, embroidery, flower arranging/festive wreaths, soap making, toy making (teddy bear, but fabric at 70pounds a metre!), wrapping parcels prettily( not using expensive ribbon), decorations made from old jewellery, salt dough, cake decorating, sweet making, homemade advent calender etc it´s just that Kirsty probably took it to a higher level using experts, but it´s given us someing to aim for next time. I thought it was lovely to see the decorated kitchen, all those lights and candles...where were the cables, but it´s a bit like Nigella´s programmes...It´s TV not real life. I had a look at the website for the show but can´t find a copy of the template she was given for the crackers, or pictures of her tablecloth and napkins (these 2 projects I´ll do for next year)

I liked the programmes they are a bit of fun and hopefully you can learn something or think oh yes I can do that myself, I like Kirstie's enthusiasm and yes I would love to have a go at the glass blowing out of everything she does. But yes a lot of what she does is out of the reach of us mere mortals but I like it anyway, it's good fun :-)0
