Watched last episode and was sat wondering about napkins when Mum rang to tell me she had some stashed for me complete with tablecloth, so late project for me to do. I really enjoyed the break from reality and Kirstys childlike pleasure from what she made. Yes she has money but she is trying to encourage people to have an old style Christmas which I applaud.

  • oooooo i've just watched the last one and the only thing i want to have a go at is the crispy cake xmas tree!!! but she just 'mentioned' it no details!!

I had a good look at the choccy tree as I am thinking of making one myself.
What I am intending to do is make a tray or two of chocolate crispy cake about 1 cm deep and let it set. Once set cut out stars in different sizes, I think maybe 3 or 4 sizes will do, cover in chocolate and set again. Then build up using 3 or 4 of each size, largest at the bottom, ( "gluing" them together with melted chocolate). I haven't really given a lot of thought yet to decoration, but silver balls and maybe glittery, shiny decs...

Hope this gives you a few ideas Shell!

    It's only a game

  • I thought a lot of it was claptrap eg the bits where she says things like "to get a stylish tree you don't need to go out every year and buy new christmas decorations"...who does that?! And that a lot of her 'crafts' aren't cheap at all, or are completely impractical, but there were some good tips - I liked the tip on tempering chocolate so you can make a crunchy shell on chocolate truffles, and the tip about adding a bow to baubles which would jazz up a load of cheap ones.

I thought by far the silliest suggestion was to add cover pears in real gold leaf to make place name holders... can anyone top that?! :-)
  • For those of you wanting to know how to do the christmas tree out of crispy cakes - I have seen this done before with cookies and it looks excellent.

Here is a link that shows them and might give you an idea of how you can do the same with crispy cakes instead

what a thoroughly lovely christmassy programme. How nice to have Kirstie getting us all to think about what christmas is all about. every year I decorate my tree with all the decorations my kids made at school (oldest is 24 yrs old!!!) I put out all the cards they made as well. She truly was an inspiration and her house was beautiful.

what a truly dull and unimaginative house she has as well, and the kitchen was double boring, the only thing missing was an outside toilet for the extra special christmas authenticity of having to break the ice on christmas morning, join the 21st century love with that much dosh you should at least have a 60" plasma screen in there somewhere lol

How does that make her 'off her head'?

The programme was about crafting and homemade items, hence its name. She presented three hours full of crafting ideas, most of which I thought were lovely, but quite clearly every idea is not going to be suitable for everyone.

If all such programmes were limited to 'accessible for all' ideas then they'd be really rather dull - crafting is about ideas and imagination, so why not take inspiration away from her programme and adapt her ideas?

Oh, and the gold leaf pears are nothing to lambast her about, they've appeared in Christmas magazines for umpteen years.

How anyone can get angry about a craft programme is beyond me :o

Where does all this venom come from on this thread?

How on earth do you know she's spoilt? She's posh and rich, that doesn't make her the devil woman :p
