I agree about the "expense" of the crafts in this programme but I think it just gets your creative juices flowing.
I loved the christmas Crackers and the soap and chocolate making. (Not together LOL) I also thought there were some great ideas for wrapping pressies and I loved the roses from wired ribbons. It just sparks other ideas off!

Hmm, still wouldn't fancy using caustic soda to make soap, even if it is meant to become harmless somehow! Wonder if there is a less scary alternative for this ingredient... going to do some googling.

Oh dear people seem to be enjoying giving her a bit of a bash!

I love this, and everything about Kirstie. She is what I would have loved to be. She gives a lovely display of a carefree childhood which continues into her adulthood and is fortunate enough to be blessed with a good upbringing and some money to boot. (and to say her family and her have probably worked very hard to get it!)

I love watching her shows, she sends me off into dream world of life in happy land.

I watched with interest, and like many others will go ahead and do the salt dough with my son this weekend, but the rest can be aspirational, and I can tell myself some time in the future.

A bit of aspirational tv never hurt anyone!

I like Kirstie but I think her family is 'old money' actually.

  • I didnt watch this programme expecting it to be how to do a 'cheap' christmas, I took it as making things to make your house lovely, to avoid the mass produced stuff, to have a go at being creative, and gaining enjoyment and satisfaction rom knowing you have made things yourself.

It was never going to be MSE - its Kirsty!! I love the fact that she is so enthusiastic, and excited about what she does, its infectious!:j

There is no way on earth I would be able to afford to do half the things she has, but watching the programme has made me feel really Christmassy and has really inspired me to get crafting with the bits and bobs I have in the house.

Instead of being negative about the programme - appreciate it for what it was, and use the ideas to inspire you!! :T

Ps - and does it really matter how she got her money? Its not her fault she has been lucky enough to be born into a family who are well off.

    I echo your sentiments TartanTotty.
I like her idea of using traditional crafts people, and avoiding mass produced items.
    Good on you Kirsty!
    Loving the sunny days!

What is wrong with that? Do we have to be 'new money' in order to be accepted in this world.

I come from a family that bashed 'old money' and looking back I wonder if that is jealousy at not living in that world, and not understanding how they keep on to their money and their values.

I have married into a family that would probably be classed as 'old money' but they have just been very careful with what money they have. Yes they were fortunate to be born in to a family where the father had a profession. But they have never spent frivolously, and believe me my family who bashed the old money families spent more frequently than my inlaws do.

My inlaw's house hasn't been redecorated in all the time I have known them (15 years!) no new furniture, maybe the odd new cardigan or posh frock in all that time. That is how they keep on to their money. My family who are on benefits and pension redecorate somewhere every year, go out for coffees, buy tat regularly, and eat ready meals regularly as a treat, not to mention go to the pub for a meal once a week.

I have learnt a lot from my inlaws, and realise how much prejudice is out there.

Sorry for my rant, but this bash the class/old money society that gathers steam sometimes really gets to me, having seen it from both sides.

Wow, hold the aggression! My point was simply that they haven't 'worked for' their money as the other person said, because it's inherited. Surely this was obvious?
It was not intended as any kind of criticism or slur, there's no need to be rude!

There was no agression or rudeness and sorry if you thought there was, all I was asking is what your point was. And no it wasn't obvious...things can easily get misconstrued on forums.
  • It's nice to see something about crafting on tv even if it is expensive stuff. The lovely shots of Kirstys house are making me feel quite Christmassy. I've recorded the series and I've been watching it while I've been doing the ironing:) However, I'm going to make a few Christmas cards now, very inspiring, obviously :)
