Hi ladies,
On my second campaign and on £102 in orders so far and done half the street. Does anyone have any advice for what to do re: people not leaving books out. I have put a couple of notes through the door is it time to give up and assume they have binned it? I hate the thought of losing the book, but i guess i can expect to lose some each camp?
Also some of you have mentioned that you include a newsletter- what would this include?
Thanks Natalie0 -
Hi shoesandbags
if you have put a card through door and still not got book back, try knocking on the door and trying to get it back. That sometimes works. And yes unfortunately you will lose some each campaign but then you find out who not to leave books for, ie those who never put them back out again.0 -

Yes I always knock to get them back, still lose a few through people not answering the door but its less than I would have done!
And I did "three strikes and you're out" - anybody who I didn't give me back 3 books in a row didn't get another one! Blacklisted as "A Binner" ... !0 -
Hi everyone, just nearing the end of my second campaign - order goes in Friday. I've done quite well this time got £188.95 of orders and still a few books to collect in (not holding out much hope on orders from them though). I can see that quite a few of you have orders of over £400 do you have a lot of territory? how many books do you order? do you drop at every house, or just ones you know now order? How long do you leave books at each house for?
Sorry for all questions its just I'm into unpaid maternity leave...due back at beginning of May but really don't want to leave baby. Really wanting to make Avon work for me so that I can stay at home. Was thinking of putting a notice up in local post office saying 'new rep in area' etc has anyone had any success with this? Also might try to leave a few books in hair dressers.
Any advice more than welcome, sorry for long post20/01/10 Began as an Avon Representative. C4 - £156.16 :j C5 - £219.75:T0 -
Hi SunnyD  It sounds like you are doing well to be at that stage on your second campaign - it does take time for people to get used to you.
I've been doing it for around 2 1/2 years now and still get excited at every deliveryI've not counted my houses recently, but I'd guess that I deliver to somewhere between 100 & 120. I buy 100 books (which, being in PC, I can get for £11) so I don't worry too much about losing the occasional one. I used to go back for the missing ones, but realised that if someone has forgotten to put their book out, they usually don't have an order. That made the 'call-backs' unproductive, so I decided to ditch the idea. My customers know they can order by email, phone or text, or can just ring me to collect the order form. The way I look at it is that while the book is still out there it is still 'working'. I just put a note through the door saying that the book is still valid for a while, and to contact me if they want to order - I also put a label on the back of each book with the last order date and the relevant delivery dates.
I usually deliver my books on a Monday, and collect on Thursday - I find that if I leave it any longer then people just forget them. The only houses I never deliver to are those which have asked me not to. The rest get a book every time if they have ever ordered, and about every second time if they haven't. I recently got a first order from someone who has had a book almost every time since October 2007, so don't give up on people even if they don't usually order!

Me again, sorry got another question. My SL only gave me one lot of brochures when I began saying 'you used to get 2 lots for free, now its only 1'. Is this true, because looking back at previous posts this doesnt seem to be the case. I have also had to pay the £15 admin fee split over the first 2 campaigns which I have also read somewhere that Avon can charge later once you are a bit more established. Not too bothered about the admin fee part but it would of been a big help getting 2 lots of 40 books as I could only afford to buy 20 books and now a few of them have gone astray its getting a bit hard to get right round my territory.20/01/10 Began as an Avon Representative. Thanks for your reply Elliebee,
I'm pleased with my efforts so far but so badly want to make this work for me as a full time job and income but finding it a bit difficult. Husband is rather unsupportive to say the least, although he is coming round to the idea. Plus the weather is dreadful at the mo, which really seems to have dampened my spirits. Have been given just over 100 houses of which I have have managed to cover about half so far. I have been met with quite a few 'secret avon reps' that my SL had no idea existed, and I really need to turn my books around faster as there no good sat on the coffee table waiting for me to give out lol. Orders are mainly from friends and family for which I am really grateful as minimum effort involved with these. Do need to shout about it at the baby groups I go to as I'm sure I would get a few orders that way, just feel a bit awkward and shy trying to sell myself.
Of course your right about the stray books, I have my mobile number, 1st line of my address and an e-mail address so if they did want to order I'm sure they would let me know, as one did last campaign. Its just so frustrating that I have paid for a book for someone to discard, I feel like dropping a little note off saying you owe my x for my book lol. Of course I wouldnt do that.20/01/10 Began as an Avon Representative. C4 - £156.16 :j C5 - £219.75:T0 -
Afternoon
Just wondering a few pages back a couple of you ladies were talking about getting strips of card for the perfumes etc. How did you get on with this? I'm just curious as I decided (wisely/ unwisely) to do the money maker thingie with the 'spotlight' scent - don't like it myself tbh but it really needs an airing with the customers soooo..... how did you all get on with this idea?

Hiya - I have ordered a bottle of Bali Beat body spritz which will arrive a week tomorrow. I've also printed some cards using card 99p for 36 sheets from The Works printed with some info and then I'll give them a drenching and hope it lasts!!!
When my order arrives next week I'll spray one of the cards to see how it lasts.
I've also done some cards for Spotlight and I'm going to stick a sample to them and give them to my orderers. Should know how that has gone by the first week in March.0 -
Thanks Claregre
To the works for me tomorrow then!
