BT Connection Charges (merged threads)

If you are about to, or recently had, a BT line connected you may be hit with a whopping £125 connection charge. We were hit with this unfair charge as the preious tenant had used talk talk before the phone was disconnected.
However, we have just discovered they have a special offer at the moment of half price connection at just £62. After a long phone call to explain that we were never given this option we have just had the charge reduced.
so if you want to cut this charge i half read this page...
http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/Public/current/FrameworkImpl10126/FrameworkImpl133605.htm#FrameworkImpl133605
and then phone them up and get your money back. :T0 -

No, the engineer will visit your house. Only if he needs to actually do work on the line, ie, fix cables to walls and put boxes on, will there be a reconnection fee. If everything is in good nick, then you won't be liable to pay. It's not automatic.
Is this really the case ??????Total Debt Amount June 2015:£14,034.22Which will come down the quickest...weight or debt??? :rotfl::rotfl:Debt free date 31st May 2025 (my 42nd Birthday )

Hello All
Quick question about a BT Line.
We have just moved into our house. Its not a new build and the previous tennants had an active BT phone line. I have plugged a phone into the wall socket but there is no dial tone. So the house has a BT line but it has obviously been disconected at the exchange. BT Say i need to pay the 125 connection charge, if so fair enough but should this be the case for a simple reconnection as we already have a line ?
Thanks for any advice.0 -

This seems to be a bit of a grey area as you don't have a dila tone but if you do have to pay to get the line reconnected you may want to benefit from the half price line connection offer here which you may well have to ask for. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Cheers for that info espresso.
I'll give them a phone and see what they say.

I have just been forced into moving flats due to a severe damp problem, it has left me financially destitute. My new flat has a telewest phonesocket, which is no good; my AOL broadband requires a BT phoneline, and i am already a BT customer. I am currently receiving incapacity benefit & was told that people on this benefit may have the fee reduced or if a phoneline is deemed necessary completely waived. I was wondering the truth of this and if anyone knows how i can get the ball rolling.
Thanks0 -
Can anyone confirm at what stage you pay the connection fee? Is it on ordering or upon the first bill? It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0

To get BT Basic, which is the scheme for reduced rental for customers on benefit, you still have to pay full connection charges. If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.0

I am with Virgin/NTL for brandband and telephone for a few years. Recently found a few cheaper BB and Phone packages so wanted to switch, but was told that I must have BT line. I phoned BT and was told because the line was disconnected for more than 6 months, i had to pay 125 pounds if i wanted to reconnect it. So if I want to switch to any other suppliers who still are based on BT line, such as talktalk or tiscali, I will have to pay 125 pounds first.
Is there a way to avoid such cost if I want to switch to other suppliers, e.g. talktalk?
Any advice is much appreciated! :j0 -
