    hoarders of the world unite!
i reckon i don't need to worry about topping up the insulation as i have so much "stuff" in the loft it's doing the insulation job by itself, lol.

the real reason we hoard is simple though

    1. love is tied up in the "things" so if we throw away the things we are losing some of that love (so i have birthday and christmas cards, presents i have received, letters, my mum's old evening gowns.....)

    2. if we grew up with money being tight etc we can't throw away stuff we have spent our money on in case we need it in the future and can't afford to replace it, even when money worries are less of an issue. (so i have old tvs, stereo systems, books, computer monitors, kettles......)

and of course we all know that when you throw something away you always end up needing something just like it in 3 weeks time and have to go and replace it, or if you can't find something you know you have somewhere you buy a new one and the stored one appears as if by magic, no matter how long and hard you looked for it, lol.

it's easy to declutter someone else's possessions as you have no personal attachment to them clouding your judgement.

i never quite trust anyone who doesn't have any sentimental keepsakes ;)

Did I tell you I had bought a new loft hatch and ladder? :rotfl:

    Hi all

Just found this thread and it has moved me and made me cry (thanks to purplegirluk) and made me feel better about my cupboard of doom and thousands of avon boxes and my boots glitches and grabbit now bargains for birthdays, etc.

I told my OH if I had a proper loft hatch and ladder, would happily store all my stuff in loft so that I can go up and get things as I need them.

could I ask you to PM me details of your loft hatch and ladder please? Also where did you buy from?

When we moved over a year ago, and at the birth of my son, didn't have a lot of room for stuff, so I ended up freecycling soooooooooo much, gave some stuff to a friend to carboot for me, she did that ok, and ripped me off for the money, kept most of it for herself and I got less than £100, lesson learnt there, and gave stuff to charity.

I still have managed to accumulate soooooooooo much stuff - and am now desperately trying to declutter. so thank you so much for this thread and the motivation to keep going.
  • I'm a hoarder. I had a big clean out recently and the only thing I threw out was an empty shoe box. hehehe and I went out to the rubbish bin and retrieved later that day. ... I pay an extra $20 per week to keep my stuff in a store room at the guest house where I live. My stuff is useful stuff not junk like sheets of tin or bundles of old newspaers.

It will not be easy to get him to let go even if he is being evicted. He might even hire a storage shed to hide his stuff.

Rather than cause a rift, probably best to make suggestions about selling some of his stuff at your garage sale. Don't let him store stuff at your place, though.

One thing I do know for sure, is that I wont be bulk buying bargains anymore, they take up loads of room and cost too much even if they are cheap iyswim.

Did I tell you I had bought a new loft hatch and ladder? :rotfl:

Did you post this before finding the Body Shop thread? :rotfl::rotfl:

Just off to the skip myself with all the M&S cardboard boxes, they offered me a job there last week :D

Ah...but my BS stuff was bought for specific reasons (gifts for particular people) so that excuses that. Ha. :D I am Queen of the cheapo hampers this year. :rotfl:
