Are you sure about the £10k limit on FlexAccount DD? I transferred more than that in a single DD transaction to Newcastle BS a few months ago.

    I think you are right.
I'm probably thinking of the maximum amount allowed for an online transfer.

Interesting date. 30 November was when my '30 Nov 2009' fixed rate matured. They wrote to me offering 3.50% for 18 months (automatic rollover) or 4.50% for 3 years (on application) So I applied for the 3 year product (minimum balance £1K) In effect MM had me boxed into two options and now they roll out a 'third' the very next morning....

Halifax Websaver fixed reward matured yesterday so snatched this one up straight away.
Don`t think it`ll be around for long.
    Thanks to OP.

Comedians at halifax have just cut their 1 year fixed from 3.5% to 2.35%.
I don`t think they want to retain savings, already moved my ISA from them.

I can't help feeling that there will be some better rates in the coming months. I'm undecided on this or a halifax guaranteed reward saver at 3% with 4 withdrawals. At least with the halifax I can move money out and into a better rate.

What would you think was a good rate, worth taking up?

Good question. Its hard when all your 6 and 7%ers are maturing. Nothing seems to compare!

Anyway, I've applied for this account and will fund it later when I get my account details if nothing better turns up.

  • Just locked in about 20% of my cash with the MMBS 4% and last month's NSI 3.95% bonds - keeping rest at the ready with 3.3%ish on instant access as I'm expecting rates to start to creep up in next few months.

Anyone looking to take up this bond better get their fingers out as I understand that there's already been "a lot of interest"

Not sure if this helps but the figures below show average gross interest, and average "real" interest when inflation is taken into account for the period frm 2000 to 2007. As far as I can see, whatever rate you get, you'll be lucky to beat inflation by much ;)

    Year Gross Real
    2000 5.5,, 4.8
    2001 3.8 ,,0.9
    2002 3.6 ,, 0.8
    2003 3.4 ,, -0.1
    2004 4.3 ,, 2.1
    2005 4.1 ,,1.9
    2006 4.4 ,,0.0
    2007 5.2 ,, 1.2

Great deal for now, thanks to the OP

For those interested opened an account and info given is they will transfer the funds on 10/12/2009
so you got a bit of time to get the cash ready.
