Tiredmum sorry about your dog, its always hard. I remember when I was little and we had to have ours put down, not very nice but better that way then them suffering

Stressedoutmum What exam are you doing? Its such a relief when they are done though as no more revising lol

Its bitter out there. I had a giggle at OH trying to open the doors to the car this morning then struggle to de-ice the car lol, he was getting a wee bit annoyed. I could see the funny side of course from the comfort of the settee lol

Been to Primarni at dinner for PJs, Slippers and a dressing gown for OH's sister. Got a snood for my self as i'm really feeling the chill getting the bus in the morning! Its horrendously busy in town!!

Bitsy - I would try tonic too or veg packed food and a bit of OS entertainment ;)

I've been taking Metatone Tonic and it's not made one jot of difference to this stupid cold

As for OS entertainment - do you think I've got the energy for that :rotfl:

Floss - Not got any Tesco vouchers sadly.

Zippy - glad the interview went OK. At least it is good practice if you don't get the job xx

Having a sit down with a cup of tea (and watching rubbish daytime TV ). Put the vac round upstairs and down, got to unload the WM in a bit and refill it - oh goody!

  • Good afternoon all, it seems like forever since i was last in here! I have my work cut out catching up with all the posts :0)
    Hope everyone is well x
Im trying to get back to my OS ways since hubby walked out leaving me with 4 children and only income support to live off of until i can get myself sorted. Cant believe how much i am enjoying all the home cooking etc again though and wonder why i ever slipped away from it.
I imagine i will be back daily for you lot to keep me on track.
Off to make one-pot chicken pilaf for the kiddy winkles for dinner then plan to put the tree up with them tonight (well let them do it then spend the next 2 hours after they have gone to bed taking everything off and placing it how i want it) :0)
    Leigh xx

  • Hi All,

Sorry not to have posted after promising myself I'd be on the bandwagon keeping myself accountable and all that. But here I am.

Happy Birthday ThriftLady and Mrs E, hope you are having lovely days.

Just got my christmas pudding steaming - 6 hours! with 5.5 to go. The friends we are spending boxing day with wanted a home made one rather than a shop bought one, and even though it is time consuming and I've never done one before, I still think it works out cheaper than the half price ones in Tesco!

I've bought in loads of sweety/crispy type things for Christmas so far, even though I still have no idea how many I am entertaining and for how long. I seem to be at the bottom of the list where my parents are concerned 'we'll see what your brothers and sister are doing, then we'll make a decision about seeing you'. Nice. Sister is working (doc in hosp) and littlest bro will be in Germany then coming to us on the 28th with his girlf, and as for my other brother, he won't decide til the last week before Christmas and my parents will wait until then to let every one else know whats going on.

So anyway. Also managed to get 100 baubles of different sizes in Mr T this morning for £10. Sure they were £20 last week, so I'm happy. Just the tree to get now :) Oh, and any ideas for a blue/silver themed room without a tree???

Should really be doing the ironing and the bathrooms while LO is asleep...

    xx

Hello Leigh - How lovely to see you back :j though I'm sorry about the reason IYSWIM

Happy Birthday thriftlady and MrsE :bdaycake::bdaycake:Hope your days are going well!

Bargainbird - I don't know how to crochet but I'm quite sure at least a couple of people will be along to help :A

essex-girl - What a horrible shock, thank goodness no one was hurt. I hope there hasn't been much damage to your stuff

molly41 - There's just nothing quite like a nice new cookbook! You just ask thriftlady, she'll tell you :D

Diva - so glad you had a proper night's sleep for once :)

Rachel - I remember knitting a snood for my DD1 to wear to school in the 80s :D It was lovely and cosy, but I ended up buying one for her sister who wouldn't wear anything home-made :p Seems odd to think DD1 has a teenager of her own now.
Bitsy - Sorry you are still feeling so rough, and that your OH is feeling so low :( Might be worth trying Vitamin D for him. (((HUGS)))

(((HUGS))) to everyone else who is poorly or unhappy.

LOL, DH is in the other room and must have fallen asleep, as the "Go Compare" ad has just been on and he didn't mute it :rotfl:

We had planned to go to the butcher's this morning, but had to queue so long in the Post Office that we ended just getting some pork chops in the Co-Op :o We'll have them with mash, and savoy cabbage, which we got there on Friday as it was on offer.

Tomorrow we're going to Bluewater, which will no doubt be heaving, to look for a bag for me to take to NZ as cabin baggage, and a handbag which can be put into the cabin baggage if necessary as i think one of the airlines we're using only allows one bag in the cabin, and the other allows two - air travel is so confusing these days.

Edited to add - Diana - i know what you mean. I was trying to invite DD2 and family over for a meal over Christmas, but they have so many friends who've also invited them that she said "Oh yes, I'm sure we'll come over at some point!" and she just didn't "get" that I was trying to make a firm arrangement to save them the cost of at least one meal
  • heavenleigh: big hugs and welcome back, we are all here whenever you need help or just a whinge!

Diva: Hello!!! perhaps gardening in the cold could have aggrevated your hip a little?

Zippychick: i have to say i agree, interview experience is never a bad thing x

As for me, well the GP gave me some antibiotics along with a telling off for leaving it a week before going in to see her, she was rather nice actually i think i shall see her again. She also took my BP which is always a concern for me as my Mum has horrifically high pressure and im sort of waiting for the day it hits me. But she said it was perfect so im happy.

Popped to the PO, and then to Sainsburys to get some baking ingredients and fruit for some crumbles.

speaking of which i got some basics plums do i need to take the skins off before cooking down or not? sorry for being such a dweeb! lol

Happy birthday MrsE and thriftlady, belated birthday wish to squiggly

essexgirl - so glad noone was hurt; sorry about all the hassle though ((hug))
    welcome back heavenleigh
 to all the new people

OH got his job - I am so happy, he is very happy too :) He will start probably March time. My friend has just finished her PhD viva, so we went for lunch. She is very happy as it's been a tough slog for her (she also worked for Dr Jeckyll and he was his usual charming self throughout her project too). I started my new contract today, so I am stable for three years now.

    I made this yesterday:

    CIMG2643.jpg

I spent yesterday crafting - I made this with some of the beads I bought back from Prague - I am wearing it at the moment as it matches my shirt.

    CIMG2703.jpg

and more different tiny cookies :)

    CIMG2686.jpg

Dinner tonight will be HM pizza. Flat is clean as we have an inspection today, so I will spend the evening doing the accounts.

Prettypaula - I never skin plums for cooking, they really don't peel easily. I also don't stone them and just fish the stones out at the end - but if you do this, count the plums first so you know how many stones you are expecting.

Have a good day all, cel x

Celyn - what lovely pics! You're so clever. I am completely -er- whatever the opposite of "deft" is. "Maladroit", possibly? Lovely news re OH's job and your contract. I hope your friend did well in her Viva - I'm so glad i've never had to do anything like that

Paula - Glad you managed to see the doc - I used to have the same problem years ago, but thank goodness I seemed to "grow out of it". I always started to feel better as soon as I had the prescription in my hand because it was such a relief!
