O2 iPhone users forced into paperless billing

Options
Hello all,

This may sound slightly pedantic, but I'm not happy with the email I received from O2 this morning. The email, sent to all iPhone users who currently receive paper bills, explains that they will now receive their bills online and this month's bill is the last paper one.

When I signed up to the contract, some 14 months ago, I specifically requested paper bills and that is on the contract I signed along with my free allowance of texts and calls. How they can just take away part of my contract is unbelievable.

I have telephoned O2 this evening and was told it was due to a campaign by O2 to become environmentally friendly and all customers will soon stop receiving such bills. I was told in no uncertain terms that I will not be receiving any further paper bills and there is no way to opt-out of the paperless billing scheme.

Rather than simply receive my bill in the post, I now have to log into their website each month and print off the bill at my expense!

Peter.

  • Why do you insist on printing it? Three allow me to download it as a PDF and I then store it on my computer with the majority of other 'paperless' bills. It lowers their costs, saves me space, and helps polar bears. Win/Win/Win.

  • Shocking behaviour from a company, such terrible behaviour trying to help the environment! I only ever look at the front page of my o2 bill and i shred the entire bill!

You're lucky, if you want paper bills from Orange you have to pay them and you have to opt in for paperless.

I've been with o2 for years and I've always had paperless billing and i've found it miles better. 1) I've not had a load of paper to file or shred, 2) There's no chance of my personal details and phone number going missing in the post, 3) Having my bills online has been handy when i've wanted to compare bills over a space of time which made me realise there was a problem with a few bills and they actually owed me £62. I doubt I would have found that out had I just had paper billing.

I personally can't see a problem in them doing something for the environment and you still have the option of printing the bills out if you need to.

I do think it should be the customer's choice to receive bills online/by post.

O2 wanting to save the environment ? My *** !

  • I do think the motives are likely as oxenryd says, but on the plus side it'll still help polar teddies, so it's still a good thing :)

Will ultimately result in a cheaper price for the consumer and there's no real need for paper billing..

    I like your optimism!!!
  • I agree with the OP - my phone is a business phone and T Mobile keep trying to make me go paperless. It means remembering more passwords and messing about logging on etc. I would need to print them out as I need to keep records for if the good old HMRC demand to see them at any time in the next 7 years.

Printing out one sheet of paper 12 times a year is hardly a big deal is it?

I've not seen a phone bill for 5 years and have no need to.

Slightly different for business customers, but not that much.
