Updated **8/08/06** for those interested- my cervical cancer.

Hi.

A few big hearted folks asked me to keep them updated on another thread, but I'm starting this new one because I don't want to hi-jack emma_b's thread even further :D

Just an update about my cervical cancer that was diagnosed on 25/5/06.

I spent overnight in Addenbrookes last monday so they could do a thorough investigation under general. My bladder is fine, no cancer spread there. :D
Before I went home I had an MRI scan which was good too, no cancer has spread to my pelvis' lymph nodes. Spoke last night to another surgeon about my treatment options and we have decided I'm to have a Trachelectomy. This is fertility preserving as we still want to try for a family, and the only other alternatives were a full hysterectomy or radiotherapy, both would leave me infertile. The trachelectomy involves removing 2/3 of the cervix and a small piece of vagina. The remaining 1/3 of cervix is sewn closed to act as a full cervix would. Only drawback to that is I would have to have a c-section were I to fall pregnant, which doesn't bother me at all. When they remove my cervix the surgeon said that even though the lymph nodes are ok now they will remove them at the same time because if the cancer was to spread then the lymph nodes are the first place it would go.

Hopefully the Trachelectomy will be the last of it but I have been warned that if pathology comes back to say that the cancer is deeper than first thought then I will have to have the hysterectomy or radiotherapy. Hopefully it won't come to that but I'll worry about that when and if it does.

Thanks to all who have given me words of support and good wishes, you are all :A

I missed your original posts, but just wanted to wish you all the best for the next few weeks/months. I hope you don't need to wait too long for your op and that the cancer hasn't spread anywhere.

    Good luck :)

I forgot to say that I'm not having the surgery until early July. Totally my choice. Surgeon was going to fit me in in the next 2 mondays but I ordered MotoGP tickets for July 2nd and don't want to miss it :D I did ask though if putting it off was going to be harmful and he said no. It won't make a difference if I had it done this week or in 3 weeks.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. When Its all over I'll update this thread rather than starting another new one.
