Thank you for my stars Toots - I didn't look at the list before I posted, didn't put the computer on until late this afternoon. Not doing anything much over the weekend but it's nice not to be clockwatching for going to work time.

will catch up on the rest of fred later. I need to hoover LR and put all the covers back on inc the one with a broken zip!!!!

Meant to say - for the broken zip, try putting a paperclip or a safety pin through the end to undo it. Alternatively, unpick one side of the zip and sew the cushion back in...

Soappie, I was a first aider at work for about five years, and it sounds to me like your DD did a fantastic job. Was it the first time she'd had to do anything like that? I remember the first time I got called to a major thing and it was terrifying! Good for her for keeping her cool and being able to do the right things. The main job of a first aider is to preserve life until the emergency services arrive and she did that. I'm sure the man felt much better knowing that a kind and caring person was helping him.

The memories will probably stay with her for a while - I still think about a man who came into our store having a heart attack, he kept losing consciousness and in between he was begging to die and go and be with his wife. It was really awful, he was a horrible colour and it was just heartbreaking hearing him talk about his wife. The other two first aiders were in tears and I had to hold it together and try to keep him awake and stop him falling off the chair he was sitting on. We really didn't think he'd make it, but he had a bypass and as far as I know is still with us today. So things might not be so bad for the man your DD helped and the memories of today will help her next time something happens as she will be more prepared and more able to cope.
Why not show her this and let her know she's not alone in being scared of not doing the right thing - feeling that way is good because it shows she cares - and I'm sure she did the absolute best she could. xx

Hi Rosieb glad you are settling in ok! Did you move far?

Carlsberrgal glad to hear about DS

Boddy hope DD is better soon

Vanilla glad the MP was helpful, sounds like the pressure has lifted a bit

We have an extremely busy weekend so don't worry if I'm not about. I've had a restful afternoon, can feel my pre-doing anything jitters starting but am trying to be as relaxed as possible. I know I can do it. Just nervous. But it's going to be a lovely weekend - have a Bible assembly tomorrow, and my family will be there and lots of my friends, and on Sunday we are going to see my grandparents and have a games afternoon with them and my parents and sister. Really looking forward to this weekend!

Soappie - I bet you are as proud as can be of your DD. I have no experience to offer but god forbid if I was ever in a situation and needing help the fact that somebody tried would be good enough for me. Maybe if she is still finding it tough in a few days time she could contact St John's ambulance, I bet they have some sort of support. I also think it would be a great idea if there was somewhere that trained staff could debrief after putting their skills into action to help them feel more confident should the situation arise again.

Rose I hope you have a wonderful weekend and well done for being so positive.

Was it the first time she'd had to do anything like that?

Yep, the first time. The biggest thing that seems to worry her is that she was spending so much time directing others, talking to ambulance control on the phone all the time., getting him into a lying position as best she could and didn't actually talk to him.

Her words were along the lines of "we were all talking about him but we're not talking TO him - I wish I'd talked to him more"

Dusty, I am very proud of her. The gentleman did leave that office alive and was handed over into the capable arms of more qualified people. I think she just needs to realise that. The debrief thing is a terrific idea. I wonder how we could organise that...
