Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit low Sue. I also find Christmas really difficult these days, but we have put the decorations up and I keep trying to pin the smile on my face when the kids are home.
Seems like the right time for a joke or two, but I can't think of any:o
I did, however, find this on another thread earlier:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=io00QGNNTEE
which had me laughing heartily, so I thought I would post it here and see if it helped.
It's one of those evenings when even chocolate didn't seem to do the trick - but I laughed at the vid until the tears ran down my face.

weather forecast for south east on friday is snow storms
I'm debating whether to book the day off work now or pretend I'm going to try and brave the chaos. London does not cope well with inclement weather.
I'm in the warmer west (but it does pee down over here all the bl00dy time)0 -

I love our christmas tree. Its a bit more colourful than usual this year...not terribly chic I'm afraid, but its happy.
One of those, slippers, big cushion ... and some lovely lidl liqeurs. Just sit in the dark and watch the sparkling lights.0 -

Oh PN! You really do have to come back to it and have a listen when you get your speakers unpacked in your new place!"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

I sometimes think you could count the dry days on your fingers and toes:D (and have a few digits over:()"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

That did cheer me up.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post, just a little too emotional to reply properly right now.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Just sit in the dark and watch the sparkling lights.I have stacks of lovely blankety things, but yeah, a cuhion would have been nice. I don't usually ''do'' slippers, but DH bought me some ghasty but very comfy, slippers from Skippol airport, slipper-clogs and I'm trying to wear them.
Can I swap the chocs for just some alcohol?
What I'll do is set up in there with some blankets and get the animals settled. Nothing like a couple of cats a dog to keep you warm. And one of the cats is the Christmas cat: loves the decorations and tree, sits for hours, enraptured by pretty sparkly things. we leave a box with some tinsle in it for her, and she gets in and luxuriates in it, draping it al over herself0 -

I visualised the tree lights melting the chocolate and the liquers dripping down the tree:rolleyes:I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. More hugs Sue. If it makes you feel any better, remember there are loads of people who aren't Christian who are forced to eat turkey, watch !!!!! on telly, and do the whole xmas thing even though they find it v tedious, because everything else is shut and there's nothing else to do.
And they may not even like mince pies.
As for me, it has turned out that the thing we've probably got is swine flu, as one of DD1's close friends has been diagnosed with it. Not been half as bad as it's been cracked up to be, TBH, but it does make me absolutely livid - DD1 missed her school play, and loads of other fun stuff she's been looking forward to for weeks, and has spent the week being sick/having a temperature, when she should have had the swine flu jab weeks ago, as she was in a priority group (asthma). My OH had the jab weeks ago, but when I tried to track down why my DD, whose condition is identical, and who had already been invited for and had the usual seasonal flu jab wasn't also on the same list, the surgery told me they had to go 'by the list'. Only after lots of nagging on my part did they eventually 'find' her on the list - ironically, she was due for the jab this week.
So as a result of their incompetence, she, my 3 year-old and myself have all been suffering needlessly this week.
Really, really hope they're better tomorrow, as nursery class has a special assembly tomorrow that I'd be v upset if my little one has to miss, on top of everything else they've missed this week. Though, that said, they forecast 'heavy' snow here tonight/tomorrow, so school may not happen anyway.
Know this doesn't compare with how you're feeling Sue - mine is illness/crossness/sadness rather than just deep-down sad - hope my moaning takes you out of yourself for a moment.
I know I couldn't do what you do every day, let alone xmas, wish we could give you a warm glowy seasonal feeling inside (that wasn't the first signs of a temperature ).0
