  • I have to carry a heavy bag with me every day. Along with the vast majority of other students.

You have a printer and scanner which is much more than I have. I have to pay through the nose to print stuff off at university, and that's when I can get on a computer in the first place to be able to.

But I have neck and shoulder problems which makes it much harder.

The only reason why I have a printer is because I need to print off a lot more than what other people do, adn I only have the scanner so that I can scan in books - can't read standard size print any more.

  • Do you think getting the university to move 1 17"+ monitor to the room with the smaller monitors in for you to use would solve the problem?

Have you asked them if they can do this?

I haven't asked them. However, mny tutor and disability support are aware of the issue.

  • I need to print off a lot, I can't read articles and things on a computer, I need to print them off. That cost soon adds up.

Why don't you ask the department to move a computer around?

So why not ask the question yourself?

Or get a trolley like the old ladies have, or one for luggage moving, get a bag that can be put onto it (Eastpak shoulder ones can, it usually says on the label and TK Maxx do them pretty cheap - and they have a lifetime guarantee if they break) put your uni bag on the bottom, then put your laptop bag on the top. Hey presto! No need to worry about heavy bags, no need to worry about your back and shoulders (can alternate hands) and all the stuff is there if you need it!

I do it all because I'm scared.
  • I have worked at a few Unis, and any University I know of would resolve this quickly and professionally. It's about talking to the right people. Take responsibility for your own learning experience, go and talk to your disability adviser and they will speak to the appropriate people to put something in place for you. If you don't get an immediate answer, make a nuisance of yourself until you do. No point complaining to people here who can't do anything for you. Simples.

You are on a hiding to nothing, I'm afraid.

You don't have to reply, its not compulsory, so I just wouldn't bother if I felt like that. Doesn't it say something in forum etiquette about being nice to all posters and that even if you disagree with someone politeness helps? Good advice in my book.

Advice that you could take also?
