There's a very interesting discussion about Vista here:
http://minimsft.blogspot.com/2006/03/vista-2007-fire-leadership-now.html
With a lot of comments from people who work on it inside Microsoft. I have to say, I really can't see any reason why I would want it until I have to buy a new computer in a couple of years because this one is obsolete... and at that point I may buy a Mac instead.
And for someone who's hated Macs with a passion since I was forced to use them for writing documentation in the early 90s -- back in the days when my Sun workstation was only rebooted due to power failure or hardware upgrades while the Macs would often need rebooting six times when they crashed printing out a document -- that's saying something.0 -
I see that some people are using this Beta on their main machine.
Whether you have been testing for years or not, this is a foolish move. You may yet come accross a problem with this that completely screws the whole system. IT IS STILL A TEST VERSION!!! This is why MS released it. They want reports back of any problems with it. They are not sure yet of how this is going to operate 'in the wild'. I haven't seen one IT consultant yet that has put this on their main machine (or plans to) and I've spoken to quite a few so far.
I'm not even going to put this on a partion. I'm in the lucky position of having spare parts for a very good machine. This is where Vista is going. This way I can see the new OS, and I still have the option of not worrying about any problems that may come up.
This release is a good way of seeing the new OS from MS. It is a taster, but don't forget that this is still only a test version. It is not designed for you to upgrade your system yet.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

And as stated previously... Windows XP has screwed up a lot of times by just installing so called fixes... No Windows System is 100% stable or foolproof. Windows Vista does have the advantage of having a backup program intergrated that can do a full system back up as well as document, picture, music and any other files you want. If people dont want to install this as thier main machine then dont but I just hate the fact that people come on here and try to make out it is a foolish move.
If people arent comfortable with using BETA software then thats up to them.. I am comfortable and have been doing so for many years with everything from Fax software to Anti-virus to OS so I resent the fact that people still say it is a foolish move when they themselves have not installed tried or tested the system for themselves.
I dont see it as a foolish move as it gives me better system stability (I couldnt connect my USB 2 Wireless adapter with WPA or WEP on Windows XP) and also means I can now use my computer for what I need and no longer have to wait on driver/software upgrades for XP to get it. I have not told ANYONE to use this as thier main system... Someone just stated using it as a main system was foolish I just replied asking why as I was using it as mine and had no seriuos errors. Using the excuse "ITS A BETA" is no argument... You may also say XP is a beta because it is still being updated and fixed. If the system comes along and screws up then that doesnt matter because like I do now I BACKUP AT THE END OF EVERY DAY. so at most I lose a few hours work.0 -
I haven't got bad word to say about this OS yet. MS have released this Beta2 version so they can see how this OS is going to react on peoples computers. If someone takes this as a 'solid' version, then good luck to them.
Even MS are telling us this is a test version. Why would any sensible person trade a sound XP (finally,so they like us to believe) for an experimental version of a new OS?
I will always believe it is foolish to take a MS latest and go ahead to change your OS.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Is it just me that thinks Vista will be just a huge waste of resources? Why can't MS release an operating system which is just that, an operating system. It should be there to facilitate the easy running of programs, and to use as little system resources as possible.
Why on earth does it need to use 3D graphics just to lure average users into buying it?!0 -

No.
What Microsoft really needed was an operating system that was as big a step up as Windows 95 was from 3.1, or at least as big as XP from Windows 98. Instead we seem to be getting XP with 3D windows and a few bells and whistles: looks like it's going to be the Windows ME for the 21st century.0
