It wasn't you who implied I was unfit Tete, that's my own observation! After walking at the weekend I was wheezing like a 70 year old, infact a few of the people out walking were 70 year olds and they were over-taking me!

Seen that episode of Friends last night, Phoebe with her stabilisers, was quite funny! I hate cycling on the roads too Birdie, too many cars these days.

Haha, I know that feeling!! Hopefully though if we keep it up we'll be as fit as them when we're their age ;) Some of the inclines I've been up in the Lakes had me honestly feeling like I was going to be sick by the time I got to the top! And not the top of the hill, just the top of that little bit! I can really feel the difference now though to how I was a couple of years ago when I first got into it, I still get breathless but I recover quicker and don't ache as much, so must be doing something!

That's my plan, if I can go (well try) rollerskates at 34, I can walk up big hills at 70 :D

Half-way round the walk on Sunday, I had to get a stick to help me with the steep bits, it also came in handy to lean on whilst I [STRIKE]tried to breathe [/STRIKE], admired the scenery!

Well, I better get a move on and get my boots, OH has been and bought himself a pair of hiking boots! I think he has ulterior motives to get me up big hills, ha!

The most I have managed to buy is two small 1st aid kits and some hand sanitiser (not forgetting a pack Twix for OH as he is diabetic), sorted!

Thanks again for your helpful post Tete!

Moring all, hope everyone's had a nice weekend! I was out walking up some quite big hills yesterday and was thinking of you Swinstie and wondering whether you were doing anything similar?

Well in money news ... there isn't any really! I still have £2k+ hidden away in a safe place, was off work on Friday and spent all of Fri and Sat looking around the NE for a car but nothing was quite right so Bluey and I are still chugging about though he's sounding less and less healthy.

Payday one week away and I ahve £107 to survive on til then which isn't too bad at all! That's even after putting £50 aside for train tickets to London in July which I'll need to book soon I think, so I'm feeling pretty organised with money at the mo.

House hunting has stalled somewhat - nothing's been coming up on the websites and to be honest car hunting has been a bit more immediate.

Italy is all paid for but I do still need to put together a budget - heard on the radio this morning that last time that volcano in Iceland erupted it carried on doing so for two years so that's got me a bit worried as we go in three weeks and have booked cheapo Ryanair which won't refund, and the cheapo hotel and car parking which are all non-refundable - gah! So fingers crossed for that!

Not a lot else to say really, will just be pottering on this week trying not to spend too much! Things I need to do this week:

    - Look at Italy budget
    - Look at Moors buses/trains and linear walk routes
    - Look at friend's shortlist of Lakes cottages for our girlie holiday in November
    - Keep checking website for cheap train ticket availability

    And today:

    - Visit granny
    - Make scones
    - Washing
    - Ironing
    - Sewing
    - Read at least 2 chapters of book
    - a Dooyoo???

Hi Tete, not been up any hills at the weekend, the weather wasn't great and I was feeling under the weather too - self inflicted I might add.

That's me all kitted out now though, I went a bit mad in Go Outdoors, wow what a place. I couldn't find the Regatta boots but seen the grey ones you posted so ended up with them (even though they weren't what you actually suggested), they seem quite comfy though. Also got grey trousers, a small backpack, socks and a light waterproof jacket. Think that will do for now as I really could've got carried away. Bought the discount card so came to around £125 which isn't too bad.

Told a guy in work today that I had bought stuff to go walking and he said 'you need to be fit to go walking'! Honestly they haven't a good thing to say about anything I do, but nonetheless I'm chuffed with my gear and will be using it this weekend hopefully.

Hope your flights to Italy are ok, I'm off to Portugal in 7 weeks and panicking incase of more eruptions!

Glad you got kitted out Swinstie - walking is hard work with a hangover, I've done it before and couldn't believe how breathless it made me :o

Ignore the stupid man! Walking really builds up your strength, fitness and stamina as well as being enjoyable.

I felt a bit silly for panicking about my flights when I got into work as one colleague is supposed to be going to Barcelona on Friday and another Tenerife next week :o So I can hardly panic about mine in three weeks' time (or not in front of them anyway)!

But when you're hearing reports of it erupting for two years last time around you can't help it!
