Your weekend sounds lovely Tete! I love Barter Books! The last time we went OH just found the sci-fi section and grabbed all of the Star Wars books (yes he's a geek but I'm just happy he reads something!) the shelf was totally emptied! He got some weird looks but he was very happy with his 'haul' and wants to go back this summer!

Scary/exciting stuff about maybe emigrating if the cuts hit, I suppose you don't know what you're really wishing for as if you do suffer job-wise you'll be pushed into moving to Oz, but you don't want to have to be forced into things because you lose your job!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Ideally I'd rather have the time to get prepared and a bit more used to the idea ... really if I'm really really honest I'd like us to be married before we go and if it were all to be rushed then that wouldn't happen. BUT, it's nice to know that we have that option if things do go pear-shaped over here. I'd rather be working in a supermarket in Queensland than working in a supermarket in Teesside!

Oh BB was fabulous, I really could have stayed there all day, it was only the thought of the BBQ at home puling away! I loved everything about it, the cafe with the train seats in, the little model railway chugging above your head, everything! I'm in love!

Your weekend sounds blissful, Tete! and BB sounds amazing :) I was working all weekend, so I missed out on the sunshine, but can't really complain - it's our literature festival at the moment which is held in a marquee so it was lovely! And Alan Bennett was sitting in my office!

Re: spending cuts/emigrating, it's nice to have a backup plan and a pretty good one at that! Do you think things could really turn around so quickly jobwise?

:eek::eek: I would give up my whole weekend to have Alan Bennett sitting in my office! Not only is he wonderful, he's also my idea of quite an attractive older man! You lucky thing!!

*calm* Well it wouldn't be that quick - if the funding for my job stopped I'd still have to wind up what's happening at the minute and that would take me through to next June and if they cancelled OH's whole career prospects that would still be another year I think before it came into force but it's still sooner than we were thinking. But that said, my friends had been living in Newcastle and always planning and planning and planning on moing to London, suddenly the owner of their flat decided they wanted to sell so within 2 months they were living and working in Islington, sometimes it doesn't hurt to have a little push.

What's happening with your work Poddle, did you have the contract extended in the end?

The first report on the alterations to local government which has been sent out does not mention any changes to building control. Of course there might be more reports in the works, but it does mention changes to planning policy which is in a similar vein. Maybe there is hope yet.

It's a funny one Dinah because the Tories said pre-election that they would definitely get rid of it, but the Libs are quite supportive of it so who knows.

Quite a nice house has appeared on rightmove today, sort of a compromise as it's a 1930s semi, so it has a drive and a big garden etc but still has a bit of character, in a street we drove down at the weekend and said it was horrible! But only because of all the parked cars, if we have off-street parking it would be ok. Going to do a drive-by tonight and if we like the look hopefully we can organise a viewing this week. Trying not to get too excited but it's the best prospect we've had for a while....

It was quite exciting (and he was brilliant) but unfortunately they shut the door and were having a quiet moment and I was left wondering what sort of state I'd left my desk in  I think I'd been rifling for snacks and there were mini toffee crisps and boxes of raisins strewn about - hopefully he'll use it in his next play!

That's quite civilised, but you're right, you can't guarantee anything so it's good to have things bubbling away in the mean time.

Yep, I'm extended officially until July and until the end of the year if I want, so that takes the pressure off (phew), but I think I'm going to start looking around in June.

Thats great news Flower, very exciting. When do you move in? Were you not waiting until until you had £2000 saved up to cover costs, or is it more affordable than you were expecting?

    Where is the house Tete?
