    - a year ago it might have just added to your debt, right? Try not to feel down about it :o

Yes it would have definitely been added to the credit cards your right - its just so fustrating.

Tete - we have a VW Polo (old one :rotfl:), it was our plan to get a new one when the MOT is due in September, but just seem to be spending a lot of money on it at the minute. OH really wants a SEAT, but im not really bothered. We share the car but he uses it alot more than me so i'll probably let him decide.

Sorry missed a few posts there! Morning Poddle! Aw Flower, what the others say - at least you have the funds there for it, I know it's a wrench using the house fund but still. Seats always seem very nice :)

I was just looking at handmade skirts on Flickr and came scross this :D hehe!

Oh lordy, that skirt is ACE Tete! I love your dress too, it looks fab! Stick a cardy over it and no-one will see the baggy armpits! :D

Flower, sorry to hear about how much the car is costing you, but like the others said, you're doing so well with savings and it's good that it's coming out of savings rather than on a card! Actually, this car talk reminds me that I have to get OH taken off my insurance, we'd planned to get him driving this year but can't afford the lessons so it's silly to have him on the insurance!

Thanks Birdie, I reported it too before I saw your post, hope they don't get annoyed at us! :o Definitely get your OH off the insurance - if he hasn't passed yet it'll be costing you a bomb!

I love that skirt too, I have a Paddington pillowcase in the airing cupboard, but it's such a memory of childhood that I don't think I could *bear* (haha) to cut it up, for a skirt I'd probably never wear in reality.

I don't think it was that much extra really because he's so old (26! Haha!) but still, it'd be cheaper without him and it's better off in my pocket!

We got our gas statement yesterday and between January and April we used £7 of gas, and paid £90! Can't wait for another rebate! :D

Morning all, hope everyone's had lovely weekends. Mine was fairly non-eventful, went to collect a little table I bought for 99p on ebay, and then basically sat about eating and watching films.

Had a little drive about some nice areas we'd like to live looking for To Let signs but nothing doing. We'd had our eye on one little bungalow before we went away but when I rang to arrange a viewing on Friday someone had 'just that morning' made an application on it. We seem to keep getting pipped to the post so I've resolved to keep a more vigilant eye on the rental sites and as soon as anything comes up that looks vaguely interesting, arrange a viewing straight away. I'm getting a bit depressed about the whole thing again I have to say. We had words a bit about it yesterday - OH really wants to live in an older house in a nice area - but it has to have modern decor (of course, as we won't be able to change it), be in our price range and not be freezing. I think he's being unrealistic and I'd like to consider some newer 70s era places on nice estates - they have more parking etc anyway. But he got a bit grouchy saying that I'd laid down the law that we have to have a house (not a flat) (which is true, I want a garden), so I should respect his wishes on this. But I feel as though it's going to be December and we still haven't found the perfect place, and I'm desperate to move out of home, I think a modern house is an OK compromise. Sigh, in my more insecure moments I wonder if he's dragging his heels because he doesn't really want to take this step, last night I was on the verge of just finding the cheapest place I could and moving into it myself! Sorry, rant over, it's just getting on top of me again a bit.

Well the holiday's over and I'm back to to-do lists! I'm going to do a weekly one I think rather than having to carry stuff over to the next day, then the next day and so on.

    - [STRIKE]Change bedding[/STRIKE]
    - [STRIKE]Check bank accounts[/STRIKE]
    - Make packed lunches all week -1/5
    - Keep an eye on Rightmove and Findaproperty - 1/5
    - Take library book back
    - Pick up bits in Wilko's
    - Washing
    - Ironing
    - Finish altering dress
    - Hoovering
    - Go to the gym at least twice
    - 5 Dooyoos
    - 10 Ciaos
    - Finish cushion cover
    - Go through sewing folder and see what else needs doing (lots I fear)
    - Fix broken drawer
    - Cut out skirt pieces from curtain
    - Paint little table?
    - Get to at least the halfway point of The Amber Effing Spyglass

Looking back at my sewing projects posted a few weeks ago:

    - Dress for sewing class - almost...
    - Vintage curtain skirt
    - Stripey skirt, which I've seen the perfect fabric for on ebay...
    - [STRIKE]Patchwork cushion cover from child's dress I bought in a charity shop[/STRIKE]
    - Cushion cover from old cardigan

    - Birdy cross stitch
    - Cats cross stitch
    - Jersey maxi dress if I can find fabric...
    - Skirt made from 80s bedding
    - Top made from 80s bedding

Oh dear, only crossed one thing off, and added two! Really wish I didn't have to work! And speaking of which, I'm really busy today too :(

I know you plan to live their for quite a while, but at the end of the day you're renting it not buying it. And a newer house is a lot cheaper to heat etc. You would likely find you could go on more weekends away etc in a slightly cheaper place. We never wanted to live in a 1960s house, but when it came down to it its got the space we want, garden, garage and when we're inside its not like we can see the outside! Character properties are more expensive, full stop. So the budget either needs to be upped to afford one or you have to compromise. Surely if he wanted a flat that would be new, so it does sound like he's being a bit contrary without realising it just so he feels like he's got his own way somehow.

I find the weekly to do list a lot easier to work from too.

There's a few nice ones above shops on Norton High St and places like that, which is exactly the sort of place we'd like to live ideally, but I've lived in flats before and he hasn't. I hate the thought of being stuck up there especially when it's sunny. We'd have the same problem we have now of having to find somewhere to go if we wanted to enjoy the weather, rather than just being able to sit in the garden.

The money's not a problem at all, we'll be able to afford holidays whatever - we just don't WANT to spend over £600 a month on rent, it's too much. I'm going to send him a shortlist of what's on there at the moment. Which he won't read. And I can see it's going to turn into when we were trying to get booked for Paris and I had to hound him to find out what dates he could have from work - it's me who's the bad nagging girlfriend though. I'm going to have to stop talking about this because it's putting me in a rotten mood.

There's the green in Norton, there's always people out there on a sunny day? These two don't mention if there is outside space, both period houses in budget and the non scary parts of Norton, but might be worth a look see whats going if you haven't already been?
